Recently, McAuliffe Middle School began community discussions in regards to moving to a new location in Park Hill (Smiley). Originally, some people in the Stapleton community were not pleased. “This is our school,” exclaimed concerned resident Rob Klunder. “We don’t want our great schools moving all the way over to Park Hill. Is this just the beginning? How many more schools will be leaving Stapleton?”

Stapleton Pushes to Get Private Snow Removal
After the first couple of snows in Denver, it again became apparent that Stapleton needs its own private snow removal. “Why is it that our streets and alleys are caked with snow days later, and other neighborhoods are completely cleaned up?” asked concerned resident Tyler Green. “It is not acceptable. I am pretty sure snowless streets were promised somewhere in the master plan.”

Stapleton Family Attends Church Just to Dress Up Kids
Adam and Joan Litton have three beautiful children, twins Mathew and Leah (4) and then baby Kennedy. Like most parents, they absolutely adore their kids, and believe they have the cutest kids in the world. So, Joan likes to get the kids cute clothes to wear. “We know that our window of them wearing what we want is closing,” says Joan. “We are taking advantage of it while we can.”
Some of the clothes are nice jogging outfits, and others are adorable jeans and tee shirts. But some are dress outfits that were either hand me downs from friends, or gifts from family members. “We never know what to do with the dress up clothes,” says Adam. “We don’t do a lot of formal things.” Joan, however, believed the clothes were too cute not to use. “I mean, some of these outfits were just adorable. We had to have the kids wear them.”
Joan decided the best way to put these outfits on the kids and not be out of place was to start attending church. “We had not attended church for years,” said Joan. “But this was our opportunity to have the kids looking so cute.” The Littons plan to continue to attend church until they have either worn all of the nice outfits they have, outgrown them, or when the kids become too difficult to dress up. “This is not a long-term thing,” says Joan. “We definitely do not plan to continue to go.”]]>
Sign of the Apocalypse: Stapleton Championship Football Team Chants “We’re Hashtag One!” After Game
In a disturbing sign of the times, a Stapleton youth football team celebrated their championship victory by holding up one finger and yelling, “we’re hashtag one!” The symbol that used to be most commonly referred to as “the number sign” or “the pound sign” has now been gobbled up by the twitterverse to the degree of which it has affected our children.

New Builder to Bring Urban Homes to Conservatory Green
Part of Stapleton’s appeal is its housing diversity. Most people that live in Denver are not from Denver, so builders offer many housing designs from around the country to make you feel more at home. Grew up in Massachusetts? You can buy the Cape Cod model. Did you call the Upper West Side home? There’s the New York Brownstone available. San Francisco is your home base? Check out the Russian Hill design. But Stapleton is also about economic diversity, and affordable family homes have not been one of Forest City’s strengths.
Forest City recently contracted with builder I Mean URBAN Estates to offer a myriad of homes that bring an urban feel from different areas all over the country. If you are from Chicago, you may be interested in the Cabrini Green. If you are from New York, I mean URBAN Estates can offer you The Harlem, or if you are from upstate, how about The Albany? Those from Detroit might prefer the Eight Mile. And finally, Californians may enjoy a Cyprus Park. “These developments authentically recreate all of the wonders of these famous and wonderful places,” Cameron James, head of sales for I mean URBAN Estates said.
Starting in the Spring of 2012, adventurous present and future Stapletonians can be a part of I Mean URBAN Estates‘ revolutionary new take on urban housing. Chicago demolished the last Cabrini Green building in 2011, but where some cities saw plight, I Mean URBAN Estates CEO Scott Williams saw demand for affordable housing. “The 80’s and 90’s are back in a big way. And it’s not just stretch pants and over-sized fluorescent T-shirts, it’s also in housing,” Williams said. “And now, for the first time, people can actually choose to live in these places.”
Each residence is part of a larger complex with all of the available upgrades such as iron bars on the windows, a pregnant pit bull, or a chain link fence. And the common areas are chock-full of extras as well. Empty pools, discarded refrigerators, hypodermics, and tires are just some of the many amenities residents of these wonderful places can expect. “Best of all, these homes are very spacious and affordable. 250-450 square foot one-bedrooms are available from the mid-20’s, while penthouses with over 700 square feet can be purchased for less than $35,000,” James gushed. With 500 residences available at those prices, they may not last long. According to James, pre-sales began on November 1 and he has already sold a handful of properties. James actually purchased one himself. “That way I know my product,” James mumbled as he lackadaisically spun his giant “From the Mid-20’s!!” arrow.

Forest City Required to Increase Font Size on Architectural Disclaimers
After a pretty tough meeting for Forest City on November 28th with 26th Ave. residents, Forest City plans to make some changes in regards to future architectural depictions and verbiage in regards to documents and signs. “We understand that sometimes our depictions can cause confusion,” said Forest City Spokesperson Janelle Ayers. “Many residents and home buyers are under the impression that when we show plans and drawings of upcoming projects that we are going to stick closely to those plans and timelines. That’s simply not the case.”

711 Accepts Every Stapleton Demand—Will Completely Change Offerings
The owners and management of the new 711 were so excited to move into the Stapleton community and please the residents that they agreed to any and every suggestion from Stapletonians. The new 711 will not allow 3.2 beer, but will allow 5.0 beer from microbreweries, provided they are from the state of Colorado, and they are priced no less than $15 per six pack. “We feel that the customer is always right,” said regional manager Andy Hill. “Although we have never ever had this much community involvement in opening a convenience store, we will do our best to not disrupt the lives of the great people of Stapleton. In fact, we want to make it better.”
