SUN Survey Seeks Responses to Questions They Already Know Answers To

July 30, 2014 by admin

new SUN surveyIn its latest survey, SUN looks to gather data regarding the opinions of Stapleton residents concerning the Eastbridge Town Center, mosquito control, high school programming, parks, and other retail development. For most of these questions, the answers are pretty obvious according to resident John Weber. “No King Soopers, kill all the mosquitoes, don’t care about innovative status–just build the high school, and more baseball fields and basketball courts. It’s pretty simple, and I am guessing 90% of the residents here agree with me.” [Read more…] about SUN Survey Seeks Responses to Questions They Already Know Answers To

July 30, 2014 by admin

Block TherapyStapleton is a tight-knit community, often with even tighter blocks. Most blocks get together regularly for drinks, dinners, alley parties, and of course, the annual block party. The kids on the block often become close friends, the wives get together for Bunco, and the men get together to play golf or poker. You may even say that most blocks are like a family. And like most families, blocks have occasional problems and issues they need to work through. [Read more…] about Stapleton MCA Introduces “Block Therapy”

Forest City Approval Rating Falls Below that of Congress

July 30, 2014 by admin

congress approval ratingForest City has never been popular, but suddenly that lack of popularity has reached a new low. In fact, Forest City’s current approval rating of 13% is below the current approval rating of the US Congress of 15%. To put that in perspective, the current do-nothing US Congress is essentially made up of a bunch of racist white guys whose only real accomplishment was getting re-elected. But, somehow, this Congress has left Forest City in its dust. “It’s a really big thing for us,” said US Congress Woman Michele Bachman (R). “To not be the most hated organization in the United States is great. It may take some pressure off of us so that we can actually get something done. Probably not, but it could happen.” [Read more…] about Forest City Approval Rating Falls Below that of Congress

Report: 76% of Black Denver Residents Don’t Want to Live in Stapleton

July 15, 2014 by admin

black people don't want to live in StapletonA recent Front Porch article discusses the challenges facing Forest City and the community in regards to affordable housing and diversity. “Stapleton continues to lag behind the rest of the Denver community and the original promises of Forest City,” says Stapleton CAB (Citizen’s Advisory Board) Committee Chair Kent Nebel. “We have repeatedly addressed this with Forest City and nothing has changed.” A new report may show that Forest City actually isn’t to blame for the lack of diversity in Stapleton. “In a partnership with CU Boulder’s mathematics and statistics department, we conducted a comprehensive study to see why Stapleton is not attracting more black residents,” said Forest City Spokesperson Janelle Ayers. “The biggest finding, according to Ayers, is simply that black people don’t want to live in Stapleton. One of the questions on the survey given exclusively to black residents in Denver and surrounding cities was whether they would live in Stapleton if their home was already paid for,” said Ayers. “Three in four said that they wouldn’t live in Stapleton, even if their home was free.” [Read more…] about Report: 76% of Black Denver Residents Don’t Want to Live in Stapleton

Stapleton Death Toll Reaches 26 After Two More Hanging Baskets Lose Lives

July 15, 2014 by admin

hanging-basketsThe numbers of the dead continue to rise after the Stone’s put to rest their two hanging baskets. The heat, plus no outdoor air conditioning ultimately took the lives of the two beautiful young hanging baskets, who were only in this world for a couple of months. “You know when you buy hanging baskets, they are eventually going to die,” said Karen Stone, ‘mother’ of the baskets. “It’s just that these were so young. I felt like we took excellent care of them. Watering them twice a day, miracle grow, and we even took them down during the hail storms. At what point is the government going to step in? It is getting out of hand. We can’t just continue to sit back and watch all of these beautiful hanging baskets die off. Especially when you consider how much they cost.” [Read more…] about Stapleton Death Toll Reaches 26 After Two More Hanging Baskets Lose Lives

Angry Birds: Runners, Bikers Fight off Protective Mother Bird

July 15, 2014 by admin

Bird attacksStapleton runners and bikers beware. You are facing a new danger. No, not bad Aurora drivers. Off leash dogs? No, you figured out how to avoid those long ago. How about muggers? That’s pretty unlikely. The biggest danger to runners and bikers in Stapleton are mother birds. That’s right, overprotective birds trying to protect their young at all costs. A Stapleton runner explains. “I was running on MLK,” said runner Gabe McCarville. “Right about where the drive is to get into the rec center, something hit the top of my head. I turned around, and sure enough it was a bird coming back at me for another pass. It was crazy.” McCarville said he at first thought it was a random incident, but he runs the same route often. “It happened to me three more times,” said McCarville. “I’m aware that I could have crossed the street, but I have too much pride to hide from some small bird. I wanted it to come down and fight like a man. However, it’s a bird, so it really only knows bird fighting, and wouldn’t know the first thing about how men fight. Unless it watches Bloodsport, in which case it would have a really good idea of how men fight.” [Read more…] about Angry Birds: Runners, Bikers Fight off Protective Mother Bird
