Recently, the subject of “catcalls” has been in the news. A catcall is defined as when one makes a whistle, shout, or comment of a sexual nature to a woman passing by. Recently, a video released by Hollaback showed the challenges a woman may face when walking around in an urban environment. The woman received tens of comments within 10 hours. Stapleton feminists have voiced their disapproval of those feeling they should make a comment to a pretty woman every time they walk by. “Of course, it has happened to me,” says resident Kristi Gable. “It is very uncomfortable, and it is a pretty helpless feeling.” Other feminists agree. “Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t matter how attractive the person doing it is,” says resident Julie Nuss. “It’s sad, pathetic, and horribly unoriginal. I’m aware that if you go to a bar you may get hit on, but a woman should be able to walk from one place to another without being subject to come ons.”

ISIL Threat Hits Home for Botanic Apartment Residents
ISIL has not only made its way to the United States, but are now considered an active terrorist cell operating within Stapleton. As the Front Porch recently reported, a white van exploded while being parked next to the Botanic Apartments. Eyewitness Greg Riekse says there was a very loud explosion, and then the van started on fire. “There were flames shooting out of the van, and it was very hot,” says Rieske. “It was pretty scary, but luckily the fire department was right across the street at Starbucks and they got here in two minutes and made sure there wasn’t any more damage.”

Moms Big Tent Group Faces Class Action Suit Regarding Suppression Allegations
The Stapleton Mom’s Big Tent Group is in hot water after several non-moms have been either refused entry into the group, or faced several obstacles to get in. “I simply wanted to know what was going on in the community,” said Stapleton dad Thomas Lockie. “But when I applied with my info, it said I had to come down to an office with four forms of ID, plus an electric bill, and a recent copy of Good Housekeeping with my address on it. It was ridiculous.”

Stapleton Family Refuses to Participate in Being “Booed”
If you live in Stapleton, there is a good chance that you were “Booed” during this Halloween season. For most, it’s a chance to get festive and do some fun things with your kids, and anonymously deliver candy to neighborhood kids. However, some people are not fans of the new tradition. “I think it is silly,” said resident Tom Rudel. “Why do I want to give someone else a chore? Not to mention, something so unproductive. You’re just putting candy in a bag and giving it to children. They are going to be getting so much candy at Halloween. Why not challenge them to do 20 push-ups a night until Halloween?” Other residents agree. “Do we really need one more thing to stress about during Halloween?,” asks Michelle Stagemeyer. “We seem to be one of the last people to get this every year, so it takes us hours to find two houses who haven’t been booed. It’s quite annoying.”

Stapleton Residents Plan “Hundred Man March” to Protest Town Center Gas Station
Roughly a month ago, there seemed to be hope that King Soopers would drop the proposed gas station in Eastbridge. Angry Eastbridge residents were ready to take their medicine and accept the King Soopers into the town center with open arms (sort of). “We were ready to accept the give and take of having the large grocer in the middle of our neighborhood,” said resident and Eastbridge town center activist Allie White. “At the same time, we were celebrating getting rid of the gas station, which is one of the main things residents were concerned with.”
Well, that celebration has been put on hold, and the champagne has been re-corked. Recently, at the October 14th CAB ZAP meeting, Sooper’s representative Joel Starbuck said that the Sooper’s higher-ups do not feel a gas station-less King Soopers is an option in the Eastbridge town center. Furthermore, when asked about moving the station north, Starbuck said that Forest City was not willing to entertain that idea. So, for many Stapleton activists, they are back to square one. “We are getting a giant King Soopers, a giant parking lot, and a gas station. I feel so defeated,” said resident Greg Clark. “We have put so much time and effort into this. We have done research, shown statistics, polls, other data, as well as attended meetings and tried to work with those in the right positions. I would have rather had King Soopers and Forest City tell us there is literally nothing we could do to change their minds, as many of us have spent 10’s of hours working to create a great town center only to be back in the same spot we began.”
Clark and others aren’t done yet, however. “We are going to go old school,” says Clark. “If they won’t listen to our well thought out rational concerns backed by numbers, then we will do a protest march.” Clark says that concerned residents are planning a march and protest at the Quebec King Soopers. “Some residents don’t even know what is going on in Eastbridge,” said Clark. “We need people to understand that what happens in one Stapleton borough could happen in another one. People all over Stapleton should be concerned this is the direction things are going.” Clark says that people can find out more about the protest and march by joining the Eastbridge Town Center at Bluff Lake Retail Development Facebook group.

The Starbucks is Coming! The Starbucks is Coming!
Forest City received a commitment from Starbucks headquarters this past week that they will buy space in the new Eastbridge Towncenter. In fact, Starbucks intends to occupy 4 of the 9 spaces in the retail area on the west side of the town center project. John Morgan, Vice President of Location Development for Starbucks, acknowledged the coffee desert the residents of Eastbridge have experienced over the last several years. When asked why the town center needed four of their coffee stores, Morgan replied, “Everyone loves our coffee. This is our way of satisfying a need in the community.”

Stapleton Residents to Add Supplementary Trick-or-Treating Sign
Long-time Stapleton residents are all too aware of the incredible wave of people coming into Stapleton on trick-or-treating night. The influx has mixed reviews from residents. Many residents are happy kids from neighborhoods less likely to offer candy are able to come to Stapleton and enjoy its bounties of candy. Other residents are frustrated they must spend over a hundred dollars in candy and often not get to give a way candy to their friends’ kids because the outsiders gobble it up so quickly. In fact, the through streets in Eastbridge will only continue to increase the number of trick-or-treaters flooding through the Stapleton borders.
