Vince Beatty thought he would play a funny and obvious April fool’s prank on his wife, Shannon. Vince had a lawyer friend draw up some fake divorce papers that he could give to Shannon when she got home from work, and of course, share a good laugh. Unfortunately for Vince, the prank backfired in the worst way.

Stapleton MCA to Introduce Tubing on Westerly Creek
Stapleton is a very active community, with many different options of things to do outdoors. Biking, walking, and even skateboarding are extremely accessible in the outdoor areas of Stapleton. However, Stapleton and Denver have many residents from the Midwest who miss being on the water. The Stapleton MCA recognized this and realized they needed to capitalize on an underutilized resource, Westerly Creek. “We spend a lot of time organizing efforts to clean up Westerly Creek, but put no time into how we can use it,” said Stapleton MCA President Liza Kampstra.
The MCA decided to hold some brainstorming sessions to figure out what they could do with this majestic, meandering body of water. “Fishing was the first thing that was brought up,” says Kampstra. Unfortunately, there were just too many challenges in regards to stocking the creek, what to stock it with, etc. Other people brought up sailing, but after a comprehensive study on the average size of sailboats versus the size of the creek itself, it just wasn’t going to be feasible.”

Conservatory Green Builder Completes First Model Home
Conservatory Green builder All Natural Homes recently completed their model home in Stapleton’s newest neighborhood. “This is a big step to where we are headed as to who we want to live in this neighborhood,” said Forest City President Phil Dargossi. “We had a vision for this neighborhood, and this model home by All Natural Homes simply nailed it.” Dargossi feels the urban-green look will be situated very well next to a giant mega-mall. “The types of people that want to have big gardens in their backyards and on their roofs are the same types of people that want to have easy access to a New York and Company.”

Stapleton Couple Discovers Hidden Pocket Park
Stapletonians Joe and Kate Hill have lived in Stapleton for over five years. They have friends in all of the Stapleton neighborhoods, and they take several walks with their dog and young children. “We thought we had seen everything you could see in our little community,” said Kate. “But, when we were walking in North Central Park, my son ran into one of the small pocket parks. We had been to that park before, but never really explored it.”
The pocket park Kate is referring to is maybe 20 yards by 20 yards, and comes complete with green grass and a couple of rocks a child could safely climb on. However, while climbing on the rock, Kate and Joe’s son Eli must have tripped a switch or button, which revealed a park which none of them had previously seen. “It was like out of a movie,” said Joe. “All of the sudden, we are standing in this beautiful, 10 acre park, with trees, flowers, and playground equipment. They even had a basketball court. It was incredible.”

Stapleton, Forest City to ‘Go Big’ on Earth Day
The Stapleton community has a strong reputation when it comes to overall environmental friendliness, conservation, and recycling. The community through Forest City definitely promotes this avidly. “It is important that as we continue to build more units, we are conscience of the environment around us,” said Forest City Spokesperson Janelle Ayers. “We want to make sure everyone knows that we are the most environmentally friendly community not just in Colorado, but the nation. If we have to buy billboards across the city, purchase bus advertising, or even fly planes with banners, we will do it to get our message across.”

Masters of the Stapleton Easter Egg Scramble: An Inside Look
The annual Stapleton Easter Egg scramble is chaos and Darwinism in practice. The organizers’ efforts to try and limit kids to 10 eggs each are noble, but pointless. Every Stapleton parent knows that their child’s ability to get as many eggs as possible, and, most importantly, as many golden eggs as possible, directly correlates to their child’s ability to succeed in school, on the athletic field, and in future popularity contests.
For the past five years, two kids have come to dominate the scramble: Skylar Saar and Tim Cox. Though Skylar and Tim were born only a few days and blocks apart, they come from different worlds: Skylar is from Eastbridge and Tim is from Westerly Creek. Each year, Skylar and Tim seem to trade off getting the most golden eggs. Last year, Tim collected 12 as he stiff-armed, tripped, and slide-tackled his fellow scramblers. In 2011, Skylar collected 22 – still a Stapleton record – and left Tim with a bloody nose. I spent two months with both families to try and find out what makes their sons so magnificent at egg collection.
