The Stapleton pools open in less than two weeks, and school is out June 6th. It’s the perfect storm. Kids are getting stir crazy in classrooms where their teachers checked out in April, and are excited to start swimming and playing in the pool. “We love when the pools open,” says local Stapleton mom Katy Miller. “We know when we are at work, our kids for sure have something to do with the nanny, and there is no chance they are just sitting around watching TV or playing games. After a decade of head-scratching from Stapleton residents wondering how such a well to do community could not have a polo club, Stapleton is finally getting what they have been asking for: a polo club (not water polo). “This was a no-brainer as far as we were concerned,” said new Stapleton Polo Club owner Benjamin Lowe. “I have worked in Polo Clubs throughout New York, as well as several in California, and I think we are about to build the most special Polo Club in the country right here in Stapleton.” [Read more…] about Stapleton to Finally Get Polo Club

It’s tremendous that Stapleton has so many great pools to help entertain and keep cool our thousands of kids from our several area schools. Seeing the kids play and have fun adds energy and happiness to everyday life. Every once in a while, however, some people may enjoy a reprieve from the splashing and screaming. Would it be possible for the MCA to designate one day a week, even if for a time period during that day, an adult only time? The Stapletonion thinks this could be a fun event for adults in the community, where sponsors and vendors may get involved, and it could end up being something the community rallied around. Our thought is that every week, it rotates to a different pool on a Friday from 2PM till close (maybe close a little later). The MCA most certainly wouldn’t need as many lifeguards, so they could save some money right there. Friday would seem to be the best day, simply because people may be able to get out of work early on a Friday, and you could never do it on a weekend day, as the other pools would potentially overcrowd. So, MCA, let’s give it a shot for a few weeks this summer and see how it goes. Heck, you may even get a lot more people from outside the hood coming in to pay, adding more pool revenue. *Correction from the editor: We have learned that since the pools are public, they are unable to discriminate by age (or anything else) regarding who gets into the pools. However, that shouldn’t stop the Stapletonion from posting unofficial adult days at certain pools where people are encouraged to go, and maybe choose not to bring their kids to that pool. King Soopers and Forest City announced two weeks ago what residents have been waiting for for ten years: there will actually be an Eastbridge town center. “This is huge,” said resident Tom York. “I mean, if it actually happens. Until I see the building actually being built, I just won’t believe it.” Stapleton residents have reasons to be skeptical. Over the last decade, there have been several rumors about different possibilities for the Eastbridge town center. Some issues with the town center have centered around its size and its ability to even house a large grocer. Then there has been Soopers public statements saying that a natural grocer “could not make it in Stapleton.” Eastbridge eventually did get a temporary all-natural grocer before Forest City kicked them off the land they were using illegally. Later it appeared that Eastbridge would get a permanent all-natural grocer, but that of course was crushed by the infamous Kroger right of refusal language. In the end, the artwork in the Eastbridge town center will go well with the new King Soopers. The Stapletonion first reported this deal going through as far back as October, 2013. But, residents were weary then, and they are weary now. A November SUN survey gives an idea of what residents will be looking for from the new town center. “They could have a King Soopers there and not totally screw this up,” said resident Stew Potter. “Just put a café and a bar there, and I’ll stop complaining.” Forest City President Phil Dargossi said the deal was driven completely by Kroger. “They said they had outgrown the current location, and basically needed more space,” said Dargossi. Dargossi insists it had nothing to do with another store or Kroger exercising its right of refusal. “Anyone who says that is a liar,” said Dargossi. “A big fat, stinkin’ liar. We have talked to every store in the world, or at least country. No one wants to be in that crappy town center. I mean nobody. They hate the location, but more than anything these stores we have talked to hate the people of Eastbridge. Sorry folks it’s true. The grocery stores you love, don’t love you back.” Kroger Spokesperson Lisa Evers says that Soopers is excited to bring the exact same options to the community two miles down the road. “This new store will look almost exactly like the other store,” says Evers. “We are excited to see how we compete with ourselves. Sometimes going head to head against yourself gives you some perspective as to where you are at.” Although most residents are disappointed it is going to be another Soopers, they are able to see some positives. “I am more excited to see what is going to be around the King Soopers,” said Kelly Connor. “I mean, if there is a decent coffee shop and restaurant, the King Soopers is simply collateral damage at that point.” Forest City has not released any statements on what else would be placed in the town center and any interested parties, but hey, we’ve waited 10 years for this, what’s another 10? ]]>

Thousands of kids all over Stapleton are involved in many sports, including baseball, football, LAX, wrestling, basketball, swimming, and more. Stapleton kids are often on the same teams, and usually from all over Stapleton’s eight boroughs. Sometimes, Stapleton kids are even on teams with non-Stapleton kids, which historically hasn’t been a problem. Recently, classism has unfortunately made its way into Stapleton youth sports when U9 Mustang soccer coach Brad Becker was caught on tape making negative comments about Stapleton residents living in Bluff Lake. Many Stapleton families have been through the process of hiring a nanny, and some have done so several times. Recently, you may have noticed a group of 10 to 15 40 year old men hanging out on Fulton and 26th some days, and Havana and 26th other days.
