Stapleton Residents Getting Older, Uglier

March 18, 2015 by admin

stapleton getting olderStapleton is now about 60% built out and has been around for over a decade now. Since the birth of the neighborhood, the community has been quickly adding elementary schools, junior highs, and now a high school. That alone should tell you how quickly folks in “the bubble” are aging. “When the community started, it was obviously a lot of young couples looking to start a family,” says SUN President Mike Victoria. “A lot of those couples that moved in were attractive and successful. So, the community has continued to grow in that fashion. Young, attractive couples moving to Stapleton looking to start families.” [Read more…] about Stapleton Residents Getting Older, Uglier

Stapleton Block Agrees New Neighbors Much too Nice

March 18, 2015 by admin

nice neighborsThe majority of people who move to Stapleton are coming here for the long haul or at least until their kids graduate from high school. But of course, there is some turnover, and that turnover on a block or neighborhood can be positive or negative. Sometimes the new guys on the block are an upgrade from the old neighbors and are cooler and more fun. Other times, cool neighbors move, and the new family who moves in is rude or even obnoxious. These are the most common things that happen when someone moves away and a new family moves in. But there is one more thing that can happen. The new neighbors can simply be too nice for the block. They can be cool and fun, but simply too good of people for their surrounding neighbors. [Read more…] about Stapleton Block Agrees New Neighbors Much too Nice

March 3, 2015 by admin

100th issueThis week, the Stapletonion celebrates its 100th issue, and over four years of covering Stapleton news. No one is going to pat us on the back, so we will have to do it ourselves. Since March 2011, the Stapletonion has included close to 800 journalistic gems in the bi-monthly publication delivering groundbreaking stories to Stapletonians. We have had over 150,000 visitors with over 325,000 page views. We have 800 subscribers, and over 1,200 Facebook fans (300 more and we get a free set of steak knives, I think). People from all over the world have visited our site, whether intentionally or not. In fact, the only countries outside of Africa that have not had a visitor to our site are Greenland, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. We have a lot of people to thank for our longevity, and the readers are the most important. Thanks to all of you who continue to read our publication and share it with others. Also, thank you to all of the freelance writers who have submitted stories and ideas over the years. Your contributions are truly appreciated. We of course want to thank our advertisers, present and past. The site would never work without our great graphic designer Neil from stickflower, so a big shout out to him! Finally, a special thank you to the organizations which make the Stapletonion possible; Forest City, King Soopers, Aurorans, Stapleton Mom’s Yahoo Group, prairie dogs, and crazy Stapletonians. Keep it up, as we hope to have hundreds of more issues in the upcoming years! Thank you again for your readership, and enjoy Issue 100! ]]>

Forest City Has Vague, Futuristic Plans for Central Park Rail Station

March 3, 2015 by admin

Science fiction TODWith the Central Park rail station and the light rail to downtown and the airport projected for completion in the next couple of years, community members are curious as to what the transit oriented development (TOD) will look like. “I live in Central Park North, and I am all for the project,” says resident Dan Fisher. “I am just curious as to what they have planned for the area. Restaurants? Hotels? Shops? I am sure they will do something with it. It’s not like that ghost town of a town center in Eastbridge.” [Read more…] about Forest City Has Vague, Futuristic Plans for Central Park Rail Station

Text-A-Tip Program Empowers Officers to More Easily Ignore Stapletonians

March 3, 2015 by admin

Text a TipThe Denver Police Department (DPD) has made a lot of efforts to improve their relationship with Stapleton residents. The challenge for the DPD is that Stapletonians seem to over-report suspicious activity. “We definitely receive more calls from the Stapleton neighborhood than any other area in Denver,” says officer Dan Lembeck. “Which wouldn’t be a big deal, but a lot of the calls aren’t necessary, or shouldn’t be considered suspicious behavior.” Lembeck says calls range from teenagers riding bikes around to “black guy walking a dog.” “We certainly appreciate their vigilance, but we needed to figure out a way to more appropriately use our time. So, we decided on the Text A Tip plan.” [Read more…] about Text-A-Tip Program Empowers Officers to More Easily Ignore Stapletonians
