Stapleton Resident Frustrated After Flood Causes Minor Inconveniences

September 24, 2013 by admin

Many people watched on television as roads washed away, homes were destroyed, and people scrambled to stay afloat on anything they could find as they waited for rescue workers. Stapleton resident Eric Crawford was in a slightly different boat, albeit, just as difficult. “My satellite TV was going in and out, and I was trying to watch a movie on HBO,” said Crawford. “To make matters worse, I had to go out into the rain to bucket out the window well. To some, I’m a hero, but really I’m just an ordinary man doing extraordinary things.” [Read more…] about Stapleton Resident Frustrated After Flood Causes Minor Inconveniences

Pageant Controversy: Lil’ Miss Stapleton Originally from Highlands

September 24, 2013 by admin

On Saturday September 21st, Stapleton crowned its fifth Lil’ Miss Stapleton, Isabel Kimball. The contest, which is for 7 and 8 year olds, featured over 200 contestants who vied for the crown. “This year, we had so many great contestants,” said Lil’ Miss Stapleton event organizer Britney Corkery. “The girls just did a fabulous job, and we were extremely pleased with how the event was run. And of course, we think Isabel is going to be a great Miss Stapleton for the next year and will positively represent our community.” Many of the pageant-goers were pleased with the event and impressed with how well it was run. “Even though my daughter didn’t win, we were happy with how everything was run,” said Kara Johnson, mother of one of the contestants. “We just need to use a little more spray tan to get us in the hunt next year.” Although the event itself went off without a hitch, there has been some negative reaction about the winner after new information about her came to light. Flooding Delays Filming of “Bridges of Stapleton” Documentary

September 24, 2013 by admin

Two weeks ago, filmmaker Tim McGovern was planning on filming his documentary on the beautiful bridges in the Stapleton community, but the rain and floods washed away those plans. “It certainly has delayed the project,” said McGovern. “We have been excited about this project for a long time, but we can’t control the weather. We still plan to do the project, but we want to wait until the water subsides and the bridges are more in their natural state.” [Read more…] about Flooding Delays Filming of “Bridges of Stapleton” Documentary

Swigert School Lottery Winners Proud of Being Lucky

September 24, 2013 by admin

Many residents feel the current school choice system is flawed in many ways, and look forward to a more simple boundaries plan. “We love the school we are in,” said Bill Roberts parent Tyler Muchmore. “We had originally wanted to be at Swigert, but are certainly happy with Roberts. What I am not happy with is how those Swigert parents thumb their noses at everyone. Yes, your kid goes to Swigert, and it is a great school, but it is because you happened to win in the current lottery system. You and your kid didn’t do anything great to deserve to go there.” [Read more…] about Swigert School Lottery Winners Proud of Being Lucky

September 24, 2013 by admin

The Park Hill Home Tour held this past Sunday was a great opportunity for many current residents to go back and see their old neighborhood. “It was so fun getting back there,” said ex-Park Hill and current Stapleton resident Stephanie Klages. “To see some of our old neighbors and some of the places we used to frequent was really neat for that couple of hours. I mean, Park Hill is a great place to be from.” [Read more…] about Park Hill Home Tour Gives Stapleton Residents Chance to See Where They Used to Live

Aurora Pleased Stapleton Residents Finally Bitching About Other Noisy Neighbor, Commerce City

September 10, 2013 by admin

Commerce City. Unfortunately for Commerce City, a loud Dave Matthews concert has given them the unneeded ire of the Stapleton community. “Think of communities as neighbors on a street,” said Stapleton resident Dave Seery. “Stapleton is the nice family living in the nice home. They are polite to their neighbors, but everyone knows they think they are better than everyone else. Aurora is the shady guy renting the two bedroom apartment next door. No one really trusts him, and he keeps weird hours. When the cops come to his house, he knows it’s because ‘Stapleton’ called them on him.” Seery believes Stapleton’s tough relationship with Aurora has allowed Commerce City to go almost unnoticed. “Commerce City is the guy renting on the other side of Stapleton,” said Seery. He is always really friendly and non-threatening, but Stapleton is pretty sure Commerce City does drugs. Stapleton ignores Commerce City’s silly antics, understanding nothing they do is going to hurt anyone. Then, Commerce City decides to start having loud, late night parties. This strains the relationship. Stapleton stops saying hi to Commerce City, and eventually calls the police on them during one of their late night gatherings. The relationship will never be the same.” Dick’s Sporting Goods Park hosted the Dave Matthews Band on August 23rd and 24th. Apparently, the noise from the park was quite disturbing. “Pictures on my wall were shaking,” said resident Tom Beatty. “Now, I like the Dave Matthews Band, and I like music, but I think that the noise was a little out of line.” Some residents reportedly called the police, but the police were unable to shut down the concert and arrest Dave Matthews as the residents had requested. The SUN Board will be discussing the issue to look for potential solutions with Commerce City and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. More than likely, the only major change will be Commerce City getting discussed more and more. Hey, Aurora, maybe someday we’ll forget all about you. Editor’s Note: You should not have to be reminded that you don’t call 911 to complain about loud music. ]]>
