For years now, the West Crescent Flats water fountain “art” piece in the 29th St. Town Center has served as a play area for kids on hot summer days. Kids run around the moat of water and climb the water mountain. The problem with this is that the structure isn’t meant for climbing. “We never thought having an unprotected, easy to access fountain in the middle of a crowded area would end up being a place for people to walk on,” said Forest City Spokesperson Janelle Ayers. “I don’t think anyone would have thought that, right? So, we put a sign up, which we had hoped would discourage kids from playing in the fountain area.”

Update: Stapleton Soopers out of Everything
May 4, 2015: Once again, the Stapleton King Soopers is out of everything. Sure, there are some random items remaining, but the stuff people actually come for and need, are completely gone. “How is it that on a Monday, shelves are empty and they are fighting to restock things,” says Stapleton resident and disgruntled Soopers shopper Heidi Lima. “Not that we all need another reason to hate King Soopers or not want another one in our neighborhood, but who is running the real time inventory management system? That guy needs to be fired.”

Roberts to Become First Stapleton School to Ditch Cursive
Last week, William (Bill) Roberts Elementary became the first Denver Public School to decide to stop teaching kids cursive. Principal Atkins, along with input from teachers and other administrators, decided they would remove cursive from the curriculum. Atkins said that many factors came into play when it came to the decision. “As we move to a more electronic world, cursive simply isn’t as applicable,” said Atkins. “Kids need to be learning to use the tools they will need to be successful, such as iPads, laptops, Microsoft Office programs, etc. We need to take time to work on that stuff instead of a dead writing style. But, in the end, the biggest reason we decided to stop teaching it is because it’s just stupid.”

America’s Wealthy Elite Buying Stapleton “Summer Homes”
Stapleton property values continue to rise, as do the property values all across Denver. The continued rise of these property values has triggered America’s wealthy to begin buying up Stapleton homes, according to analyst Tom Baltus. “The United States’ most wealthy people are very acute at understanding the importance of real estate,” says Baltus. “When they see property values go up, especially in the United States, they pay attention. And in many cases, they jump on the train, worrying they will be left behind.”

“Stapleton Counsel” Facebook Site Fills ‘Advice’ Void in Stapleton
Stapleton residents have created tens of web sites aimed at helping those in the community. Stapleton sites help people find babysitters, good local businesses, places to eat, buy and sell items, among many other helpful areas. Most of these concepts spawned off the now defunct Stapleton Mom’s Yahoo! group. The scope was so broad, the site was getting overwhelmed with questions and answers, but didn’t have a specific focus. Much like chat rooms, residents have created topics and sub-topics aimed at getting people to the right area so they can get the best information quickly and accurately. “I really like all the different sites,” says resident Heidi Crum. “If I need help from a business, I go to Bizz Buzz, if I want to buy or sell things, I go to Stapleton Swap, and if I have a lost dog, I go to to Next Door. It just makes everything so easy.”

Stapleton Family Already Packing for Pool
With the pool opening in about three weeks, families are getting eager to bring their families to the pool. Stapleton pools serve many purposes in the summer including burning your kids out so they are not up until the sun goes down after nine, and a place for parents and nannies to bring kids so they don’t actually have to interact with them. For some parents, the pool can also be a challenging experience.

Westerly Creek Introduces “Kiss a Mom” to Compete with Swigert's “Touch-a-Truck”
Last Saturday, Westerly Creek finally held it’s long-awaited, yet controversial fundraising event, “Kiss-a-Mom.” The event was the first of its kind in Stapleton, and according to many male attendees, hopefully not the last. “I think all of the Stapleton schools should do an event like this,” said Stapleton dad Greg Addison. “As a Stapleton resident, I don’t think it matters where your kids attend school, we should be supporting all of the schools, regardless of your specific allegiance.” Event attendee Mike Street agrees. “It was such a fun event,” said Street. “Raised a lot of money, and all in good fun.” In fact, Street says he was only disappointed in one thing. “I was really hoping to kiss Holly Beatty. But, it was a really long line, and by the time I got up there, her shift was over. Oh well. Next year.”
By dollar standards, the event was a huge success. “We raised over $45,000,” said Westerly Creek PTA President Sarah Clark. “In fact, we had to move the event from the school to the Invesco Field parking lot because we had sold so many tickets. We think we can even do more with the event next year. If people are willing to pay that much and attend for a kiss, what if they got to Touch-a-Butt? One step at a time, but I am proud of this event, which in the end, is all about the kids.”
Event goers purchased a $20 ticket to attend the event, and then had to purchase tickets to pay for kisses from different Westerly Creek moms. Many of the moms hammed it up by wearing risqué outfits, or what they call “Tuesdays”, but nonetheless, everyone had a good time, including the kissers. “It was really flattering seeing the long lines just to come get a peck on the cheek or mouth,” said one of the Westerly Creek kissers, Caitlyn Reynolds. “We all got breaks, and plenty of water and mouthwash.” There were about 15 hot Westerly Creek moms on hand to rotate through the lines, but next year, Clark says she expects to have more. “The event went so well, there will most certainly be more people here next year,” says Clark. “So, we need to mitigate those ling lines by getting more hot moms involved to keep the customers happy.”
Clark says the idea was originally a joke when PTA members were discussing what they could do to compete with Swigert’s heralded “Touch-a-Truck” event. “It is such a great event,” said Clark. “We needed to have our own version of that. We struggled for several years to find our own ‘big thing’, but now I think we have it.” Indeed they do, and this writer for one is excited the direction it is headed. ]]>
MCA to Begin Conducting Exit Interviews for Persons Leaving Stapleton
Although many families and individuals may move while living Stapleton, most actually move within Stapleton. The ones who do leave do so at somewhat uncontrollable consequences, mostly due to job changes, for better or for worse. However, there are people that move away from Stapleton due to what the Stapleton MCA is calling ‘controllable circumstances.’ “For most people, living in Stapleton is a positive experience,” says MCA President Liza Kampstra. “But, it just isn’t for some people, and that is fine. What we want to start understanding is are there things the community could have done to keep that resident in Stapleton.” The MCA is so serious about understanding the issues of Stapleton defectors, they are hiring a human resource professional to start conducting exit interviews.
