The Northfield shopping mall has had its struggles over the years, but making Central Park Blvd. a through street was going to give Stapleton residents easier access to the coveted shopping ground. The Northfield shopping district knew that this would boost sales but not this much so quickly. [Read more…] about Report: Central Park Blvd. Largely Responsible for 0.4% Retail Growth at Northfield

MCA Plans to Designate Smoking Area for Future Movies on the Green

August 8, 2012 by admin

Complaints have been piling up in regards to the smokers at the movies on the green. The event is strongly marketed to families and children, and a lot of people even bring infants. Most of the smokers are not Stapleton residents and are more than likely Aurorans. “The issue is not that Aurorans are inconsiderate,” says MCA President Liza Kampstra. “Many just lack the knowledge that second-hand smoke can be harmful to young children and annoying to many adults.” Movie-goer Dawn Hamrock agrees. “Our family was just starting to watch the movie, when some Aurorans right in front of us just lit up. We have a one year old and a four year old, so we would prefer to not be around smoke with them. I guess we assumed people would know better than to do it.” At the next event, the MCA plans to make several announcements in regards to the new smoking area which will be directly across from the new library. “We definitely want to keep this event open to the public,” says Kampstra. “But we need to continue to look out for the health of our residents here in Stapleton as well.” The MCA considered handing out fliers regarding the dangers of smoking and second-hand smoke to “Aurora-looking” people, but in the end decided against it. “There are labels on the cartons,” says Kampstra. “Based on our research, reading is not something Aurorans are very interested in.” ]]>

The 26th Ave Park may not be what residents originally had in mind, but at this point, Forest City considers the job done and will no longer discuss the former project. Spokesman Janelle Ayers released the following statement from Forest City. “We have looked at several options in regards to the development of the 26th Ave. Park space. After careful consideration, Forest City believes that leaving the space as is will be best for the community, environment, and most importantly, Forest City.” [Read more…] about 26th Ave Park. Roberts Parents Scramble to Enroll at McAuliffe After Realizing School Year Starts Two Weeks Earlier

August 8, 2012 by admin

Stapleton parents are very proud and protective of the schools their children attend. They are willing to argue for hours with other parents about why their school is better, and even work hard to convince other parents to join their school as if it was a cult. This is why some recent events in the community’s school system are so shocking. Recently, Principal Vogel has seen a huge influx in requests for space at McAuliffe Middle School. “We had been recruiting for the last year, and have been very satisfied with our efforts,” says Vogel. “What we are surprised about are all the last minute requests to attend our school, in particular kids who are currently attending Roberts Middle School.” [Read more…] about Roberts Parents Scramble to Enroll at McAuliffe After Realizing School Year Starts Two Weeks Earlier

Stapleton Mom Invents Hand Sanitizer That Kills Final .01%

August 8, 2012 by admin

Stapleton mom and inventor Traci Holst is like every other Stapleton parent who wants to make sure they create the most livable environment for themselves and their children. She works hard to keep a clean house and makes sure the kids wash their hands with antibacterial soap in attempt to keep a germ free household. “Ever since they were babies, I have been paranoid about germs,” says Holst. “We would scrub their hands, and now we make sure they scrub them for at least two minutes any time they come in the house. We felt this was the best way to ensure our children never got sick, and we never got sick.” [Read more…] about Stapleton Mom Invents Hand Sanitizer That Kills Final .01%

Local Schools to Offer Billboard Space to Advertisers

August 8, 2012 by admin

The Stapleton schools have become juggernauts when it comes to generating revenue to support the underfunded Denver school system. They hold lavish giving parties, auction parties, and offer sponsorships to businesses among several other things. So when CBS Interactive approached Westerly Creek, SMIS, and Bill Roberts to form a partnership, it was a no-brainer. “We know that schools can always use more money,” said CBS Interactive regional VP Jeff Jones. “We also love the Stapleton demographic, and wanted to be the first to get it on this opportunity. Eventually, someone else was going to do it.” [Read more…] about Local Schools to Offer Billboard Space to Advertisers
