Bad Roads, Cancelations Allow Parents Time to Run Errands with Kids

March 3, 2015 by admin

snowy roadsLast Thursday, DPS canceled school due to the icy road conditions, cold weather, and a strong chance of more snow. Although school cancelations can wreak havoc on parents’ work schedules, to many parents, it was a welcome day off. “When DPS closes, we get the day off as well,” said parent Mariel Crawford. “I had a lot of things piling up that I needed to take care of. There were some clothes I needed to take back, I had to go to the store, I wanted to look at some new pillows for the couch, just a lot of stuff. So, I packed the kids up and we hit the road for a day. It just made sense.” [Read more…] about Bad Roads, Cancelations Allow Parents Time to Run Errands with Kids

Denver Residents Demand 96 Hour Cancelation Notice from Superintendent

March 3, 2015 by admin

school cancelationDenver has a history of questionable cancelations, and last Thursday was no different. “It really wasn’t that bad,” said resident Mike Sifers. “I don’t know if it was due to the roads, or if they thought it was too cold for the city kids to be walking to schools. But, it didn’t seem that bad to me.” Jim Closson was of a similar opinion. “I’m from Iowa, so this weather seems mild compared to that,” said Closson. “I know they don’t have a ton of plows, so I kind of get it. But, I drove around and didn’t have any troubles or see any accidents.” [Read more…] about Denver Residents Demand 96 Hour Cancelation Notice from Superintendent

Chuck E. Cheese Files Trademark Infringement Lawsuit Against Stapleton Soopers

February 18, 2015 by admin

new-stapleton-soopers-logoThe Stapleton King Soopers recently added to the classic King Soopers logo in an attempt to create its own unique identity, apart from the rest of the 143 King Soopers/City Market stores. “We had a recent situation where there was a report of mice and or mouse running wild in our store,” said Stapleton Soopers manager Gary Stevens. “We are just trying to capitalize on that momentum, and changing the logo up was the easiest thing we could do.” The new logo features a mouse next to the Soopers logo, but according to Chuck E. Cheese attorney Dan McCoy, the logo is eerily similar to the classic Chuck E. Cheese logo. “It is clear that the Stapleton Soopers has stolen our patented Chuck E. Cheese mouse to aid their image,” said McCoy. “Clearly, having our great pizza and image mixed up with that of the Stapleton Soopers is going to hurt us in the long run. We have asked them to remove the mouse immediately, or we will sue for punitive damages.” McCoy says that the damage to the Chuck E. Cheese brand being tainted by Soopers is estimated to be between five and ten million dollars. Manager Gary Stevens does not see things that way. “Our mouse is way different,” says Stevens. “We have an “S” instead of a “C”, and I think there are other differences. We are pretty adamant at this point that we are sticking with our guns. We can’t let silly frivolous lawsuits hurt our successful business model. We will obviously let the courts decide, but we are focusing on continuing to be a better store, and not worried about this.” McCoy has a differing view. “We have a lot of confidence we will prevail in our lawsuit,” says McCoy. “Our hope is that Chuck E. Cheese will again be the representative of only one company instead of two.” McCoy says that an injunction on the logo could be enforced as soon as early March, but until then, the Stapleton Soopers will be free to flaunt their “new” logo. ]]>

Fifty Shades of Grey; Forest City, Soopers Unable to Give Eastbridge Town Center Any Sex Appeal

February 18, 2015 by admin

new king soopers plansThe Eastbridge Town Center issue continues to loom large, especially with Eastbridge residents. Recently, architectural plans were released for the new King Soopers, as well as a layout for the new town center. To say the least, residents were uninspired. “It is literally sheet metal and brick,” says resident Sam Elijah. “There has been nothing done to personalize the feel of the store or the town center. It’s like they just grabbed a bunch of strip mall designs, threw them in a box, and drew one out lottery style. This is the same old same old with no imagination.” [Read more…] about Fifty Shades of Grey; Forest City, Soopers Unable to Give Eastbridge Town Center Any Sex Appeal

MLK Bike Lane Completed in Time for Busy February Bike Season

February 18, 2015 by admin

bike-lanesIn the last couple of weeks, more than likely you have been headed down MLK and suddenly realized you needed to cut over immediately, or be forced to turn onto Syracuse. MLK has added a much needed bike lane, which has caused parts of MLK to turn into a two lane street instead of a three way street, part of which is a section right next to Quebec. “It kind of threw me off,” said driver Michael Cox. “I drive the same route every day, and all the sudden there were these cones, and I had to move over to merge. It was kind of crazy. Maybe they could have picked a better time for the project than in the dead of winter when it gets dark early, and there was very little warning.” [Read more…] about MLK Bike Lane Completed in Time for Busy February Bike Season

Forest City Looking For Graffiti Artists to Decorate Tower

February 18, 2015 by admin

graffiti the towerWith nothing currently in the works for the abandoned control tower, Forest City has decided that the best course of action is to turn the current eyesore into a big piece of art. “We are looking for legitimate graffiti artists, no gangsters, to create a unique design or designs on the tower,” said Forest City Spokesperson Janelle Ayers. “Since there is absolutely no momentum for something to be done with the tower or the area, we can at least turn it into a piece of art.” The four story tower would present an exciting challenge to any graffiti artist, according to Ayers. “This type of an opportunity does not come along often,” says Ayers. “Some promising young graffiti artist could make this their life’s work.” [Read more…] about Forest City Looking For Graffiti Artists to Decorate Tower
