Spring has sprung, and it’s that time of year again. The kids get back from a long spring break and wonder, “why in the hell I am going to school again?” The days get longer, kids want to stay outside later and up at night longer. Kids have been at full go all year, and their minds are fried. “I just want it to end,” said third grader Jackson Meehan of Isabella Bird. “Two months seems like a really long time left. Are there any more breaks?” Westerly Creek 2nd grader Ella Crowley shares the same sentiment. “I think we’ve learned enough for one year,” said Crowley. “I’m reading, doing my math, what else do they want? Enough is enough.” Anyone who drops their kids off at school can see the lack of motivation in the students’ eyes. But it’s not just the students. The teachers are spent as well. “I don’t have much left in the tank,” said a first grade teacher on the condition of anonymity.
“This is the reason we have movie days, field days, field trips and everything else these last two months of school. The teachers don’t want to be here any more than the students do.” Another area teacher is in complete agreement, who also chose to not be mentioned by name. “You come with your ‘A’ game every day. You can’t take days off like people in the cubicle and office world do. We have to come ready and with energy every day. It’s a long season, and teachers are pretty run down this time of year.” Parents also want the school year to an end. “Making lunches, drop off and pick up, making sure they are doing homework, getting them to activities, and on and on. It’s just a pain in the ass,” said Swigert parent Nikki Bidler. “I’m just looking forward to having a little more lax of a schedule.” Bill Roberts mom Holly Travillian is excited to not have to run out the door every morning. “This routine is getting pretty tiresome. It’s like Groundhog Day. I know I will be sick of the kids two weeks after school is out, but right now, I’m sick of the school routine.” Well, in two months it will be all over. Then, we start a new routine everyone will be sick of in one month.
