What was intended to be an easy sparring debate for the President, went terribly wrong when he was trounced for the second straight time by 17 year old DSST debate champ Greg Halsor. The President’s staff was looking for an easy but able opponent that would give the President a victory and some of his confidence back. “Things did not go exactly as planned,” said White House Press Secretary Jay Carney. “The President was looking for some good experience, but more than anything, looking for a win. That didn’t happen today.”
The debate mostly focused on foreign policy, as the President’s staff believed there was little a 17 year old would have on President Obama. “The kid brought up some great points,” said Carney. “He performed much better than expected. But again, this was more about the President not performing up to our expectations.” There are already rumors that his debate coach Zach Geary will be fired within the next week.
“Right now, Geary is our coach,” said Carney. “Yes, our team expects a better performance for what we are paying him. We will continue to evaluate the situation, and if a change needs to be made, we will make the change.” Other rumors have reported that the President and Geary have lost the trust in each other that is necessary between a debater and his debate coach.
The next Presidential debate is scheduled for October 16th. The President’s camp has yet to schedule another mock debate and they do not have any immediate plans to do so. “We are trying to see what path will work best for the President,” said Carney. “That path may be as complicated as having four mock debates in the next eight days, but may be as simple as giving him a couple Red Bulls prior to taking the stage. Either way, we expect much better performances in the weeks to come.”]]>
