Ever since the announcement that King Soopers would be the anchor store at the Eastbridge Town Center, Stapleton residents have been holding meetings, starting Facebook pages, emailing Forest City and King Soopers, and everything else in between to give feedback or to possibly stop the grocer from moving into Eastbridge. “I have been to the SUN meeting, the Forest City and Kroger meeting, and have held rallies in my backyard,” said resident John Potter. “But every time we have meetings, or give extensive feedback, they never come back with anything that we need. No answers, or no improvements as far as we are concerned.”
Potter should have been clued into Forest City and Soopers lack of interest in community feedback from the last community meeting the two companies attended. At one point in the meeting after listening to several residents repeat the same critical comments of King Soopers, King Soopers VP and representative Thad Ortner took the podium. Ortner covered his ears, and started shaking his head side to side while yelling, “La! La! La! La! I am not listening to you!” over and over for about 30 seconds, and then simply sat down and produced an arrogant smirk. Ortner was not available for comment after the meeting or for this article.
“I think everyone was shocked,” said meeting attendee Mike Becker. “Not because of what he said. A lot of us know they don’t care about our opinions and are simply going through the motions. What was shocking was how the message was delivered. It was pretty childish and dickish.” Other attendees agreed. “It was just crazy,” said Kamie Olds. “It did shut everyone up, I will say. So, if his goal was to get people to stop ripping on King Soopers and stop repeating themselves, then I guess he did a great job.”
Where Ortner’s plan succeeded, it also may have failed. “I can tell you that the community is more enraged and united as ever,” said Potter. “Once word spread how things were handled by the Soopers delegates, hundreds and hundreds of people have since joined our causes through Facebook.” Potter is unsure if this increase of anger and opposition against Soopers will make a difference, but they will continue to fight. “We will fight until the last Soopers brick is placed in its permanent structure. In fact, even after it is built, if we have to picket the place until they go out of business, we will!” An unnamed Soopers source has told The Stapletonion that Soopers remains as dedicated as ever to not listen to members of the Stapleton community. Looks like we have ourselves a little Havana St. standoff. ]]>

Stapleton High School Will Probably Be Best in World
According to the June Front Porch, the new Stapleton High School is already a success. In the words of Principal Tropper, Stapleton High School will produce, “graduates who will go on and be amazingly successful adults—not only in the academic sphere, but as human beings and citizens too.” This makes perfect sense to Stapleton residents. After all, it’s their kids who will go on to be so incredible. “My kids are special,” said resident Mary Buenger. “So, the new Stapleton high school will be lucky to get them. I am sure the high school will be great, but no matter where my kids go, they will be tremendous human beings. We do a great job parenting them.”

Block Captain Disappointed in Lack of Security Detail
Westerly Creek block captain Kristi McDonald was eager to begin all of her duties as new block captain. Duties include organizing the block party, forwarding SUN emails, attaining neighborhood watch signage, as well as many other tasks (I assume). McDonald proudly accepts the important position her peers have put her in, however, she is somewhat disappointed that the MCA doesn’t understand how key the Stapleton Block Captain position is. “The MCA only allots one security officer per block captain,” complained McDonald. “So, my 24 hour security is limited to the abilities of one man being able to protect me if someone wanted to take a shot at me. That seems pretty low. I mean, what does the President get?”

The Day(s) Stapleton Stood Still: Starbucks Temporarily Closes for Construction
Stapleton residents have had to deal with their share of adversity. From potentially being forced to have kids go to one great school when they wanted to go to a different great school, to patiently waiting for an Eastbridge town center for eight years and running. But, Stapleton residents have endured these tough times and situations. “We as a community have been through a lot,” said resident David Brennan. “Look at the recent hail storms, and then I think even a tornado was pretty close from what I have heard. But, as they say, adversity builds character.”

Forest City to Install Diagonal Crosswalks at Key Stapleton Intersections
Stapleton potentially has the highest percentage of stop signs at intersections than any neighborhood in Denver. But, all of these controlled intersections haven’t properly controlled the Stapleton pedestrian traffic. “You see residents crossing diagonally in intersections all the time,” said resident Jim Schwab. “Not only is it not safe, but it is inefficient for pedestrians and automobiles. They need to make sure pedestrians are crossing crosswalks appropriately, or do something about it.”

Over 850 Stapleton Dad’s Receive “Best Dad Ever” Facebook Shout Outs
Stapleton is well known for being a great place to raise a family. Also well-known in Stapleton are the many hard-working moms, both stay-at-home and otherwise. The Stapleton moms get most of the attention due to their hotness and to the now defunct Stapleton Moms Yahoo group. Much less heralded are the dads in Stapleton, but there are many great dads in the community, albeit, not as attractive as the moms.

Stanley Marketplace Shining Example of Possibilities if Forest City Isn’t Involved
In the June Front Porch it was announced that the Stanley Aviation building, which has remained vacant for years, will be repurposed and serve as a community marketplace. “This is really exciting,” said resident Mike Stevens. “Eastbridge has been waiting for this for a long time, so to finally get a neat little town center we can be proud of is pretty cool.” Of course, Forest City and Stapleton can hardly make claim to the new project. Stanley Marketplace found a partner in the least likely of places; Aurora.

Havana 711 Replaces King Soopers as Shadiest Stapleton Place After 9PM
The Stapleton King Soopers has long been known as a place you didn’t want to go after dark. In fact, most Stapleton women refuse to go there if it is after 8:30 in the evening. “It just kind of has this creepy feel,” said resident Tracy Strassburger. “And not just in the parking lot. I feel just as unsafe inside the store.” A recent study conducted by the MCA shows that 88% of residents will not go to the Stapleton King Soopers after 9PM, unless it is an absolute emergency. This percentage, however, was only good enough for second place.
