With the Shortcut to Stanley<\/a> preparing to open soon, neighboring cities Denver and Aurora have had issues settling on the street name of the new road. \u201cFrom our standpoint, it\u2019s not an issue at all,\u201d said City of Aurora engineer Kevin McCoy. \u201cThis is in Aurora, so we get to name the street. Denver can name any street they want, but not ones in the City of Aurora. We will take care of that on our end.\u201d Denver city Engineer Luke White disagrees. \u201cTheir city?\u201d asked White. \u201cIf it wasn\u2019t for Stapleton, the real one, not Stapleton Aurora<\/a>, no one would even care about that part of Aurora. Hell, Aurora didn\u2019t care about that part of Aurora until Stapleton came along. So, yeah, we feel like we should get some input there and the Stapleton street, Emporia, should keep the name as it goes through to the Stanley. Bringing Stapleton people, to a Stapleton project.\u201d Aurora ignored Denver\u2019s requests and ultimately hitched a street sign branding the street Dayton Way. \u201cIt was pretty disrespectful,\u201d said White. \u201cThey didn\u2019t so much as reply to our requests to discuss it. It was pretty childish and frustrating. But, you know, I guess you fight fire with fire.\u201d Denver responded by placing a massive concrete bench with the name \u201cEmporia Street\u201d etched on it. \u201cIt\u2019s not going to be fun trying to move that thing,\u201d White said with a grin. \u201cLet\u2019s see if they have anything left in their arsenal.\u201d McCoy did not let on what Aurora will do next, but admitted there will be a response. \u201cThis thing is going to escalate quickly,\u201d said McCoy. \u201cWe’re just getting started.\u201d Looks like the border wars<\/a> are back in a big way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
