North Central Park Resident Shane Hill and his wife occasionally get out of the house without their kids. Last Friday evening was one of those times when the two of them attended the Avett Brothers concert at Red Rocks. \u201cWe had a great time,\u201d said Hill. \u201cGreat concert, and we went with some friends. Always great to get out of the house.\u201d As usual, the couple needed to find a sitter for their seven and five year olds. \u201cWe found a sitter we haven\u2019t used that much, but knew it would be totally fine,\u201d said Hill. \u201cAnd, she did great, but since we haven\u2019t used her much before, I had no idea what I was supposed to pay her.\u201d Hill says he sometimes asks sitters, but they respond with things like, \u201cwhatever,\u201d or \u201cwhatever works for you,\u201d or any number of unspecific responses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wish they would just tell me when I hired them. \u2018Hey, just so you know, I charge $15 an hour.\u2019 That would be totally fine. But, too many times I am left wondering whether I overpaid them or underpaid them. It\u2019s really frustrating.\u201d Shane means to talk beforehand, but continues to forget. \u201cI guess I\u2019m so excited to get out of the house, I run out without discussing it. Then, the entire drive home I am doing finite mathematics in my head to figure out what I think I should be paying.\u201d To further complicate things, Hill doesn\u2019t always understand what he should be paying for. \u201cIf my kids sleep for half the time she is there, what exactly am I paying for? Does the rate go down during the sleeping hours, or dose it stay the same? Am I paying her to watch my TV and use my WiFi? So, damn frustrating.\u201d Shane plans to do a little research next time and solidify a payment amount. \u201cI think I\u2019ll just sleep so much better,\u201d says Hill. \u201cThe not knowing is killing me.\u201d To help other dads like Shane, The Stapletonion has included this helpful calculator<\/a> from Care.com.
