To use a scientific term, it’s pretty fucked up.” Price said he has studied the emotional behavior of three year olds for over a decade and has seen thousands of three year olds crying, in person and in videos. “What makes this situation so unique is that the incident was caught on tape,” said Price. “Lots of people have sent me unverified statements about their three year old crying for a reason, but none had any hard evidence to back it up. It was all hearsay. What we have been looking for is video proof of a three year old crying for a legitimate reason.”

Price said he and his team essentially struck gold when a Stapleton family sent them a video of their three year old crying after falling down and hitting his head on the corner of the coffee table. “We happened to be videoing the kids having a little dance party,” said the father of the three year old Jim Weber. “He was just dancing around and slipped, and hit his head pretty hard. He started crying right away, and we knew something was different about the cry.” Dr. Price has studied the video countless times and saw what he describes as ‘the smoking gun’ in a situation like this. “What you notice from watching the video is that the child cries immediately,” says Price. “Usually, a child will look around to see how the adults around them act, and then make their decision. It was clear the incident actually hurt the child since they cried immediately.” Dr. Price says the info is extremely valuable for their studies. “We are hoping to figure out a way to teach three year olds when they should be crying and when they shouldn’t. Although we are not close at this point, the video is a scientific breakthrough, which could allow rapid gains in our research.”

[36

0":"post-6346","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-issue-127","7":"entry
["GET
