\t\t\t\t\"cold\"<\/a>Well, it has begun. We are all back swimming in the giant petri dish of viruses that is school. And with the school year, comes early cold season. In fact, a poll of 2,000 households shows that almost 60% of the neighborhood has contracted some sort of virus in their home. \u201cIt\u2019s really frustrating,\u201d said Stapleton parent Katie Schmit. \u201cWe basically survive the entire summer without a bug in our house, but after the first week of school, I have two sick kids and parents who have runny noses. Not much you can do about it, but still, a little annoying.\u201d Other families are having the same experience. \u201cWe all have sore throats,\u201d said Amanda Madison. \u201cWho knows where it will go next. Hey, maybe it will be the only cold we get all year.\u201d\n\nDoctors say there are no fail-safe methods to avoid getting the common cold. \u201cThe amount of viruses out there, and the number of kids being put in close quarters, people are going to get sick,\u201d said pediatrician Tom Ortner. \u201cThe best you can do is teaching your kids to wash their hands, sanitize when you can, and hope for the best.\u201d Ortner says there is no cure for the common cold virus, but the best way to fight it is to eat healthy and get plenty of rest. \u201cI know our office is going to receive a lot of calls in the next couple of weeks,\u201d says Ortner. \u201cBut the truth is, there is not much we can do about it.\u201d Estimates show that over the next four months, roughly 85% of Stapleton will have contracted a cold virus.
