Residents must complete and turn in applications by January 31st. Many parents new to the school system are scrambling to learn more about the schools, understand the formats, meet the teachers, and see the classrooms. And they are doing all of this in spite of the fact that they know they have no chance of getting in.

“We are new to the area,” said Julie Weber. “And from our understanding, we don’t really have a chance of getting our four year old in since we don’t already have a child attending one of the schools. However, we still want to do our diligence, and appear and feel like good parents.” Other residents who do not already have a child attending a Stapleton school feel the same way. “We’re just kind of going through the motions,” said Kyle Gibbs. “It’s like buying a lottery ticket. You know you’re not going to win, but it doesn’t hurt to play. Hopefully, we will have a better shot of getting our youngest in once we get our oldest in the system.”
The truth is, even parents with children in the system aren’t positive they’ll be able to get their three or four year olds in an ECE program. “From what I know, there are only forty spots available at Westerly,” says Kristin Hodges. “So, if there are more than forty people trying to get in that already have siblings in the system, we are right back to a lottery situation. So, I guess we are in a better situation than people completely new to the system, but we are far from guaranteed.”
Most new parents continue to look for other alternative options such as The Creative Learning Preschool. “For some of the schools, the ECE times just are very conducive anyway,” said Gibbs. “So, even if we got in, we may go to one of the other places.” When it comes to filing your ECE forms, remember the slogan: “Stapleton School Choice: You Can’t Win if You Don’t Play.”

[132

0":"post-4402","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-issue-71","7":"entry
["GET
