ESPN Gameday has decided to come to Boulder for the upcoming November 16th football game between the University of Colorado and the California University Bears. “We love Boulder,” said Gameday analyst and reason why your wife watches football announcer Kirk Herbstreit. “We typically do big showcase games, but this gives us an opportunity to give back to the football community.”

The University of Colorado is currently struggling in deciding whether or not they will keep their football program moving forward. “We have great tradition here at Colorado,” said University of Colorado President Bruce Benson. “But, we just aren’t having the success or funding we would expect for a major BCS program, so it is definitely on the chopping block.”
When ESPN officials heard there was a possibility of CU shutting down the program, they came to the program’s defense. “They have won a national title (1990),” said Gameday Analyst Lee Corso. “I know they have had some tough times recently, but you can’t just do away with this program.” Since a solid 2002 season where they lost the Alamo Bowl, the Colorado football team has seen its struggles.

2007: Last bowl appearance (lost to Alabama 30-24)

2004: Last bowl win (UTEP, 33-28)

1999: Last bowl win over BCS opponent (Boston College, 62-28)

2003-present: Only 44 wins over FBS opponents

2003-present: Only 30 wins over BCS opponents

2003-present: Only 16 wins over teams with winning records

2003-present: Only 10 wins over BCS teams with winning records

Football officials, the PAC 12, and ESPN are hoping that the Gameday experience helps save the struggling program. “We hope that it is a good reminder to the fan base that although times have been tough recently, there is still a tradition here,” said Herbstreit. Gameday chose the Cal game because they believe it should be a close contest. “Cal (1-8) is struggling right now a bit as well,” said Corso. “So, this really gives both teams a legitimate shot to win. Should be a close game. Maybe it won’t showcase a ton of talent, but these kids work hard and deserve to be on TV every once in a while.”
ESPN College Gameday is no stranger to the Boulder campus. They have been to Boulder three times, twice in 1995 and once in 1996. Colorado is 1-2 when Gameday is in town. Gameday will begin broadcasting at 7AM local time in Boulder and fans all over Colorado are encouraged to go to Boulder to show your CU spirit and let the University know that you still want a football team. The game will kickoff at 5PM local time and will be broadcast on ABC.
