\t\t\t\t\"\"<\/a>If you didn\u2019t know that the school board election was coming up (November 5th), you are not alone. In fact, most people have no idea who the candidates are, what they stand for, or how and where they would even vote for them. \u201cYou know, I am still exhausted from the Presidential election,\u201d said resident Amanda McCoy. \u201cI just don\u2019t have the time to read about the issues. Why don\u2019t they have commercials on TV or have a debate I can watch? That would be so much easier to follow.\u201d\n\nUnfortunately, small board elections and local elections never get the kind of attention that national elections do. However, these politicians are typically able to get more done than politicians on a national level (shocking, I know). \u201cChanges are really made on the small, local level,\u201d said Stapleton resident Sandy Witherow. \u201cI try to always vote in these and encourage everyone else to do so as well. Do your best to get to know the candidates, because these votes actually matter to you.\u201d\nWitherow is certainly in the minority when it comes to local voters. The problem is that most Stapletonians, and Americans for that matter, get too tied to macro, hot button issues such as gun control, health care, abortion, the death penalty, gay marriage, and immigration. So, unless a school board nominee unnecessarily brings up one of these issues, their candidacy will get very little attention. In fact, my guess is that if I ran for the school board and decided to publicly announce that I was for gay marriage, I would win or lose on that issue without any concern for my actual merit or qualifications for the position for which I was running.\nSo, if you want something to get done, get interested in your local politics where crap actually matters and change does not take 30 years.
