\t\t\t\t\"\"<\/a>In a disturbing sign of the times, a Stapleton youth football team<\/a> celebrated their championship victory by holding up one finger and yelling, \u201cwe\u2019re hashtag one!\u201d The symbol that used to be most commonly referred to as \u201cthe number sign\u201d or \u201cthe pound sign\u201d has now been gobbled up by the twitterverse to the degree of which it has affected our children.\n\nThe kids played great, \u201csaid coach James of the Houston Texans little league team. \u201cI just wish they understood how you are supposed to celebrate. Makes me kind of sad. We did have a talk after the game, and hopefully, it doesn\u2019t happen again.\u201d But the damage has already been done.\nLeague Owner Don Retzlauf was disappointed in the celebration as well. \u201cWe want kids to talk a little trash, and do a little celebration,\u201d said Retzlauf. \u201cBut, the word hashtag is a pretty lame way to celebrate. I don\u2019t know what is going on with today\u2019s youth, but we certainly need to correct it.\u201d\nTwitter founder Jack Dorsey released the following statement. \u201cIt was never our intention to confuse kids as to what a hashtag is and what being number one means. We deeply regret any confusion this has caused, and plan to support youth organizations in any way possible to make sure this is corrected.\u201d Later the following tweet was sent through Dorsey\u2019s personal twitter account. \u201cDon\u2019t confuse number and hashtag. They are the same but different. #numberandhashtagsaredifferent.\u201d\nLeague owner Retzlauf is encouraging parents to talk with their kids. \u201cI think just letting them know the differences between the two would be great,\u201d said Retzlauf. \u201cThe hard thing is that kids watch ESPN all the time, and all they are seeing is hashtags from twitter accounts, and very few people yelling, \u2018we\u2019re number one.\u2019\u201d ]]>\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
