It was a huge undertaking, and convincing others to join his “Black Stapletonians for Obama” group would not be easy. “I knew I had an uphill battle,” said Campbell. “There were about 1000 African Americans in our community, and for obvious reasons, most were very pro-McCain. Getting them to support Obama was not as easy as dropping a flier on a doorstep, or making a couple of phone calls.” By the time of the 2008 election, with persistence and hard work, Campbell had over 200 members in his group.
“It wasn’t easy,” said Campbell. “We had a lot of knock down-drag out fights to convince African Americans that Obama would be a good President for them. Sure, it took a lot of time, but the satisfaction of knowing we were doing something for our future President and our country felt good.” Fast forward five years later, and Campbell’s group now has over 600 members. “We are extremely proud of how far we have come. Of course, the goal is always to get the remaining 600 or so members to join our group, but one member at a time is fine with us.”
Many African American Stapletonians are standing steadfast in their support for Romney. “He has a five point plan,” said African American resident Brittni Morris. “It reminds me of four minute abs. Not totally sure what the five points are, but I love the simplicity of it, and I assume it will be just as effective as the four minute abs program.” Convincing African American Stapletonians to go out of their comfort zone and vote for Obama has been just as challenging as expected. “We are asking these people to do something they have never considered,” said Campbell. “Of course, we don’t expect to change their minds with a handshake. We have to go into the nitty gritty of the Romney and Obama plans and explain why Obama’s is good for them, and Romney’s is not.”
“Colorado being a swing state makes our jobs even more exciting,” said Campbell. “We are as motivated as ever to keep Obama in the White house. We are doing everything we can to attract more members.” Those interested in joining “Black Stapletonians for Obama” can go to BlackStapletonians4Obama.org

[100

0":"post-2873","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-issue-42","7":"entry
["GET
