Loophole in Animal Permit Law Allows Resident to Hold Cock Fights

July 22, 2011 by admin

The new, well-intentioned change in the permit law to own chickens and goats for Denver residents has some bad, unintended consequences. There is a loophole that people have found which will allow them to have cock fights in their yards, provided they have the appropriate permit. Entrepreneurial Stapleton resident Keith Carman was the first to the punch. “I have always been fascinated with animal fights,” says Keith Carman. “I watched a lot of discovery channel growing up, and with the down economy, and my recent layoff, this has allowed me to follow my passion.” Some neighbors near his home on 33rd and Beeler are not excited about the new, thriving business. “I think it is extremely inhumane,” says neighbor Sarah Fogdall. The permit was meant to bring fresh, organic foods to ones home, and this is just outrageous.” Unfortunately for those opposed, the law will stand as is for at least two years before it is allowed to come to a vote again. Although “Carman’s Cage” is bringing in mostly Aurora residents, some Stapletonians appreciate cocks. “I’ve always had a fascination with cocks,” says Zack Geary. “Ever since I was young, I thought cocks were quite impressive.”  Chris Zarrifis agrees. “What’s wrong with going to some guys house and watching a bunch of cocks? I just don’t see what the big deal is.” It is too early to tell if the cocks will have an impact on the economy, however, it is predicted that cock-fighting “arenas” will outnumber medicinal marijuana businesses by next April.]]>
