The current plans have been announced for section 10, and among the many interesting features is a park with downtown views. Of course, the views would normally be obstructed by the many Commerce City structures, but Forest City has a plan to make it so the viewing area will allow folks to see overtop Commerce City to beautiful downtown Denver. “It’s not any kind of engineering marvel,” said Forest City spokesperson Janelle Ayers. “We simply plan to build a six story mound of dirt, and then create a small park on top of that.” Ayers says that the surveyors did their homework, and realized six stories is what would be needed to see over Commerce City. “I mean, no one wants to look at that,” said Ayers. “It’s bad enough we have to border it, but we want to give residents a way to see over Commerce City to the beauty and possibility that is our City of Denver.”
The builders plan to create a large dirt pile, and then will seed grass with landscaping. The hill will have gradual ascension so people can walk up the hill but there will also be a decorative, winding staircase which will bring people to the top. Along the top of the mound there will be picnic and BBQ areas as well as open space for visitors to simply lay a blanket down and gaze at the beautiful Denver cityscape, without having the awfulness of Commerce City in the way. “It’s going to be a great gathering place for Stapletonians,” said Ayers. “And we hope if people look just at the right angle, they won’t even have to see Commerce City.”]]>
