Residents to Receive Stuffed Prairie Dog from 26th Ave. Park

August 6, 2015 by admin

stuffed prairie dogsConstruction will soon begin on the 26th Ave. Park, and the first step may be the hardest. “Before doing anything, we need to get rid of the prairie dogs,” said project manager Jim Richardson. “We know that will be a little controversial, but that’s really not our decision and someone else is handling that portion. So, understand that, everyone. The construction crew is not responsible for anything having to do with the prairie dogs.” Forest City Spokesperson Janelle Ayers says a very specific vendor has been hired for that job. “We found a company named ‘Prairie Dog-Gone’ and they seem to be the leader and most reputable company when it comes to removing prairie dogs from an area,” said Ayers. “They will be handling the removal of the rodents.” Ayers says she is aware the killing of the prairie dogs is bound to cause controversy. “We appreciate the viewpoint of those who are against euthanizing the prairie dogs,” said Ayers. “We completely disagree with it, but we appreciate it.” Ayers says to ease the blow to residents who have feelings for these relatives of the ground squirrel, Forest City is offering something special to all Stapleton residents. “We are going to offer one stuffed prairie dog to any family in Stapleton who wants one,” says Ayers. “Of course, those who live on 26th Ave. can have two, since they were most accustomed to seeing them.” Reaction to the Forest City gifts has been mixed. “I think it is pretty disgusting,” said resident Kristi Clark. “Not only are we killing these innocent creatures, we are slapping in the face by turning them into home decorations. Just terrible.” Todd Hansen agrees. “It’s pretty messed up,” said Hansen. “I know they need to get rid of them, but the extra step in having them stuffed and giving them away is probably a little much.” Sam Groth doesn’t think so. “I think it is going to be great to have a reminder of what Stapleton used to be around the house,” said Groth. “In fact, I have a spot already picked out for mine in our new bookcase.” Jennifer Campbell is also excited to receive her prize. “I think they will be a lot cuter stuffed,” said Campbell. “I don’t know why people are freaking out about this. It’s not like we are going after Cecil the Lion here. They are frickin’ prairie dogs.” No matter where you stand, each home is entitled to one stuffed prairie dog. “We are not exactly sure yet how we are going to distribute the prairie dogs,” said Ayers. “But, we are working with SUN and the MCA, and of course, Prairie Dog-Gone to find the best solution.”]]>
