Speed Bumps to Adorn Stapleton Through-Streets

June 3, 2015 by admin

speed bumpIn a continued effort to get outsiders to “slow the f#ck down”, the City of Denver, Forest City, the MCA, and SUN have agreed that speed bumps will be the most effective at accomplishing the goal. “We have tried patrolling those streets, posting signs, photo traps, etc.,” said Denver Traffic Engineer Liam O’Hara. “Nothing has seemed to slow people down. Historically, speed bumps are annoying enough that people will slow down if they are the correct size and distance apart.” O’Hara says the speed bumps will initially be placed on Havana St. and then on Fulton St. “There are a couple others we are looking at in Bluff Lake, but we want to see how successful the bumps are on Havana and Fulton first.” Most Eastbridge residents are excited for the addition. “Heck, just having the construction on the streets to slow traffic down will be nice,” said resident Adam Williams. “People come off I-70 and go screaming down Havana. It is ridiculous.” Sandy Farrell is also looking forward to the addition of the speed bumps. “People go crazy fast on Havana. Not that we are out playing in the through street, but it is just annoying. Enjoy your time in Stapleton. Slow down and take in the view.” O’Hara says if the bumps are successful on the through streets they may begin to use them more widely. “There are several other Stapleton streets we have earmarked for consideration,” said O’Hara. “These streets include 26th Ave., Beeler, 33rd, 35th, among many others.” Construction to install the speed bumps on Havana and Fulton is slated to begin in late June.]]>
