The Stapleton MCA has experienced a lot of success with its “Wine on Wednesday” events held at the MCA community room. Patrons come and try different wines, learn about the wines, and also enjoy different cheeses. “They have really been a huge success,” said MCA President Liza Kampstra. “We always get a great turnout, and the community really seems to love it.”
Overall, the MCA does a great job organizing fun and educational events for the community. Beginning January 9th, the MCA will be adding its newest event. “We are calling it ‘Bitchfest Thursdays,’” said Kampstra. “It seems like people are already getting together on Thursdays to bitch, so we want to start organizing it and owning the process.” The MCA has not yet settled on exactly how it is going to work, but they have some ideas. “One of the things we are considering is simply having a topic, introducing it, and letting the fun begin,” said Kampstra.
Kampstra mentions that there is no desired outcome to the events except riling people up, and potentially causing dislike or at least discomfort among neighbors. “It’s not like a debate where we are going to award points to those who make intelligent statements. People will get to come, say whatever they want, interrupt people, and raise their voices. It should be a lot of fun.” Kampstra says she does not have a timetable regarding how long “Bitchfest Thursdays” will run. “As long as people aren’t in complete agreement on our issues, we will continue to have the events, and introduce stimulating topics relevant to the community.” Kampstra says More information will be available as we approach the New Year, but residents should definitely be excited about this new event.
