Bluff Lake Golf Tournament Raises $750 to Improve Fitzsimons Golf Course

August 21, 2012 by admin

The Bluff Lake Golf Tournament whose proceeds originally were to go to Bluff Lake’s environmental education and outreach efforts took a surprising turn. Bluff Lake spokesperson Joel Johnson made the announcement at the post-tournament awards lunch at Bluff Lake. “After golfing this, well, horrible, horrible golf course, we have decided that it is in the best interests of Bluff Lake and the surrounding community, to donate all proceeds to the improvement of Fitzsimons Golf Course. Now, eat up, and let’s quickly forget we ever played there.” Johnson says that he is still happy with his decision. “Bluff Lake is in significantly better shape than that golf course,” said Johnson. “We are not going to steal from one cause to give to another. Now, we will have a fundraiser again next year, but will probably do it at Green Valley Ranch. The Fitzsimmons golf course, long known for its low prices, has always had challenges. From the not so scenic highway views, to the concrete greens, Fitzsimons has a ways to go. “The money will at least let us refurbish the first green,” says groundskeeper Scott Bauer. “But, more than anything, what Bluff Lake has done has created awareness of our problems, and hopefully, the community will rally around the cause. Those interested in donating can go to Fitzsimons and donate a greens fee, or even a membership fee. It is recommended to not golf the course until enough money has been raised by Bauer and his team to make the appropriate improvements. ]]>
