Do you worry about your baby looking stylish at the pool? Are you not up with the latest and greatest baby swimwear? The Stapletonion is here to help! Before pool season opens, the Stapletonion will be presenting its second annual baby swimsuit edition. Again, many have requested the “Hot Moms” swimsuit edition as well as the “Hot Nannies” swimsuit edition, but we are sticking with the Baby Swimsuit Edition for this year, however we will not turn away photos sent in of hot moms or nannies. Please submit photos of your baby (between 6-30 months), their first name, and who they are wearing. Submit to stapletonion@gmail.com with the subject line “baby.” The edition will be in one of the June issues of the Stapletonion, so please get your photos in so our editors can do any necessary touch ups on unsightly baby fat. If we use the submission of your baby, you will receive a free Stapletonion tee shirt! ]]>

Stapleton Neighborhood Watch Signs Take on Threatening New Tone
The controversial “stand your ground” law has recently taken center stage in the media. Several states have a “stand your ground” law which essentially allows someone to use deadly force on an individual if they feel their life is being threatened. Unfortunately for Stapleton residents, Colorado is not one of these states. “Sure, it seems like a grey area when talking about ‘life threatening’ says Stapleton resident Brandon Litton. “But if I want to shoot somebody, I should be able to shoot them.”
The law will certainly be discussed by Colorado lawmakers, but in the meantime, Stapleton is taking its own precautions. “We have modified our neighborhood watch signs just a little,” says resident Mike Gaies. “It gives the impression that Colorado does have a “stand your ground” law, and we are hoping this deters criminal activity in our neighborhood.” Residents believe that the threat of being shot coupled with a criminal’s lack of knowledge of state laws will be a strong deterrent.
The local police department does not endorse the signs, however they can do little about them. “Each neighborhood is allowed to amend their Neighborhood Watch signs as they see appropriate,” says Denver Police Sgt. Aaron Simmer. “The problem we have with the signs is that it actually may give residents the belief that using deadly force is acceptable, and we just can’t have a bunch of trigger-happy Stapleton people running around with guns.”
For now, the signs will remain, but residents are reminded that Colorado is not a “stand your ground” state. The only people that should be handling firearms are trained experts, such as pilots and mall cops. ]]>
One-Way Aisles Now in Effect at King Soopers
The Stapleton King Soopers continues to be at the forefront of improving the grocery shopping experience. First, they have a wildly successful gas station, and most recently they have added the whole foods express. They have now added the third biggest change to grocery shopping: the one-way aisle. In order to squeeze in the Whole Foods Express and add in new inventory, King Soopers has had to go to smaller aisles. These small aisles have not been popular with customers. Shoppers have had trouble getting through two carts at one time causing anxiety, claustrophobia, inadvertent groping, and even fights.
King Soopers put their brainstorming team together to solve this issue, and they believe they have. Manager Gary Stevens explains. “People in Denver are very used to one-way streets. They help keep traffic moving, and overall are a necessity in an urban environment. Well, we consider ourselves an urban grocery store. So, we are creating one-way aisles in our ‘skinny’ aisles to help customers.”
Signs will be posted at each end of the aisle and wrong way signs will also be included along with an arrow pointing the correct direction of traffic. Several different policing options have been discussed in regards to rule breakers. “We may simply take their King Soopers card, or delay their shopping by making them watch a 20 minute video explaining how one-ways work,” says Stevens. “We are open to other suggestions, however.” Two other things that Soopers has improved is that they have made aisles much more diverse. “Now, if you are looking for charcoal, ice cream, and a greeting card, they are all in the same place.” Aisle signage is now not so “in your face” and you can go halfway down the aisle before being able to read the sign.
One-ways will be implemented immediately, and shoppers are asked to be cooperative during this change. “We know in the end this is something that is going to improve the King Soopers shopping experience,” says Stevens. Just one more way King Soopers is here for you. ]]>

“Ponch and John” Maintain Order on Stapleton’s MLK
Recently, a portion of MLK Jr. Blvd. reduced the speed limit from 35 to 30 mph. To ensure a smooth transition, Denver PD deployed their two best motorcycle officers, Ryan “Ponch” Stagemeyer and Andy “John” Hamilton. The two received their nicknames from the popular TV show CHiPs. “People joke with us about it,” says John. “We don’t mind. We actually think it is pretty cool. Those guys were good lookin’ dudes.”
