The deadline for School Choice ECE 3 and 4 year olds is fast approaching. Residents must complete and turn in applications by January 31st. Many parents new to the school system are scrambling to learn more about the schools, understand the formats, meet the teachers, and see the classrooms. And they are doing all of this in spite of the fact that they know they have no chance of getting in.

Art Outside Jail Makes Residents Forget Jail Exists
The fantastic new art pieces outside of the Denver County Jail have made it so you hardly even notice there are two correctional facilities there totaling about 75,000 square feet. “It’s remarkable what these pieces have done for this area,” said Eastbridge resident Kevin McGovern. “When Havana is open, I take it quite a bit. The art pieces have really changed my perspective of this drive, and now I’m not even embarrassed to tell people to take the Havana exit to get to my house. You really don’t know the jails are there unless you are really paying attention.”

Stapleton High School Ends Most Exhaustive Principal Search Ever
The search for the Stapleton High School principal began locally, but soon became a global search attempting to find the greatest principal ever, who would be the only principal qualified for the Stapleton job. Late last March, the committee decided to go global with its search efforts, and invited 51 candidates to Stapleton from around the globe. Most were US candidates, but there was one from India, and others from Germany, Finland, two candidates from Japan, and one from England. In the end, like in world wars, the United States prevailed.

Families Put Away Xmas Lights Knowing they Mysteriously Won’t Work Next Year
Now that the Holidays are over, Stapleton residents are busy taking down their Christmas lights and decorations. Parents hurry to make sure they get the tree down in time to put it out for recycling (which is this week).
The frustrating part for people is knowing they will have to replace all of the lights they are packing this year. “Every year, we unpack the lights, and for some reason, they don’t work,” said resident Bryan Carman. “The tree lights, the lights we put on the house, all of it. So, we end up buying brand new ones at Target every year. But, I still pack them with the hope they will work the next year.”

Stapleton Post-Holiday Recycling Accounts for 63% of City’s Total
Stapleton makes a strong effort to be green, and already has a proportionately higher recycling amount than any other neighborhood in the city. But, after the Holidays, that percentage becomes even higher. “There are several reasons for this,” said George Delaney, COO of the Department for Public Works. “First of all, Stapleton does a great job of promoting recycling and following through with it. Second of all, Stapleton has a large number of children and therefore, has a lot of presents do buy. Finally, Stapleton parents can afford to spoil these kids, which ultimately accounts for the thousands of pounds of empty toy boxes we pick up from Stapleton after the Holidays.”

Oddly Placed Turn Lane Has Residents Asking, “WTF?"
There was a lot of push back on the through streets leading up to their completion, but the truth is, there has not been much of a negative impact on Stapleton residents. In fact, the streets have probably led to more conveniences than inconveniences for residents. “It probably takes 10 minutes off my drive to work,” says resident John Carman. “And I know lots of people that kind of secretly like them.”
Even the Havana through street has not caused much of an increase in Aurora traffic. Apparently, the ones that ignored the sign all those times are still the only ones using it. Plus, with the school boundary issue and still no movement on a town center, residents have moved well passed complaining about the through streets. Or have they?
As you drive on 26th and approach Fulton, you will see a large left turn arrow in the lane you are in. If you are not turning left, which the majority of drivers there are not, you must violently swerve your vehicle to get into the non-turn lane which would naturally seem more like a right turn lane. “It is really messed up,” said resident Stew Miller. “It just doesn’t make any sense. Every time I pass by it, I think, ‘what the f*ck?” Other residents agree. “Do they really think traffic is going to be so busy there that they need a left turn sign,” asks Jessica LaPedis. “I mean, what the f*ck?”
Denver traffic engineers don’t have a reasonable answer for the situation. “Well, it just seemed like a lot of pavement without any signage,” said engineer Paul Rudee. “And, we had the paint, so we thought, ‘hey, what the f*ck, let’s paint a giant left turn arrow here.’” Engineers agree that the arrow is probably pointless, however they will not change the arrow until it causes problems and not just inconveniences.

School Boundary Topic Ruins 17th Stapleton Holiday Party
Andy and Megan Geary host an annual holiday party, usually with a fun theme. This year was no different, as the couple organized another fun gathering for almost 100 friends and neighbors. It is an adult-only party that usually goes into the morning and sometimes gets a little out of hand. “I think sometimes people forget they are not in college anymore,” says Megan. “But, it’s totally fine, and we always have a blast with our friends.” This year, the party ended earlier and was a lot more somber than in years past.

Wife Updates Will and Estate Plan Day Before Insisting Husband Put Lights Up on Icy Roof
Chris Bukatz refused to put Christmas lights up on Thanksgiving weekend because he wanted to enjoy some outdoor activities of his own and did not want to miss the great football games. “I don’t look at 10 day weather forecasts,” said Chris. “So, I had no idea it was going to be freezing for like two weeks. I tried to tell my wife it was too cold to put them up, but she didn’t care, saying I had my chance Thanksgiving weekend.”
