The Eastbridge Town Center issue continues to loom large, especially with Eastbridge residents. Recently, architectural plans were released for the new King Soopers, as well as a layout for the new town center. To say the least, residents were uninspired. “It is literally sheet metal and brick,” says resident Sam Elijah. “There has been nothing done to personalize the feel of the store or the town center. It’s like they just grabbed a bunch of strip mall designs, threw them in a box, and drew one out lottery style. This is the same old same old with no imagination.”

MLK Bike Lane Completed in Time for Busy February Bike Season
In the last couple of weeks, more than likely you have been headed down MLK and suddenly realized you needed to cut over immediately, or be forced to turn onto Syracuse. MLK has added a much needed bike lane, which has caused parts of MLK to turn into a two lane street instead of a three way street, part of which is a section right next to Quebec. “It kind of threw me off,” said driver Michael Cox. “I drive the same route every day, and all the sudden there were these cones, and I had to move over to merge. It was kind of crazy. Maybe they could have picked a better time for the project than in the dead of winter when it gets dark early, and there was very little warning.”

Central Park Sledding Hill Shuts Down After Stapleton Boy Reports Scrape
Until further notice, the Central Park Sledding hill has been shut down after it was reported a Stapleton boy received a minor scratch on his right upper arm. “We knew at some point this could happen,” said MCA President Liza Kampstra. “Of course, there have been several injuries at the hill, but it was always outsiders, or the injuries were not reported. Now that we have somewhat confirmed that a Stapleton child has been injured, we are shutting the hill down, pending further investigation.”

Forest City Looking For Graffiti Artists to Decorate Tower
With nothing currently in the works for the abandoned control tower, Forest City has decided that the best course of action is to turn the current eyesore into a big piece of art. “We are looking for legitimate graffiti artists, no gangsters, to create a unique design or designs on the tower,” said Forest City Spokesperson Janelle Ayers. “Since there is absolutely no momentum for something to be done with the tower or the area, we can at least turn it into a piece of art.” The four story tower would present an exciting challenge to any graffiti artist, according to Ayers. “This type of an opportunity does not come along often,” says Ayers. “Some promising young graffiti artist could make this their life’s work.”

SUN to Test Residents to See if They Know what They are Talking About When it Comes to Schools
SUN recently sent a Stapleton-wide survey out to residents to gauge their feel for several topics including satisfaction with Stapleton living, the co-op, and sports facilities needs. A large portion of the survey was dedicated to learning the preferences for types of elementary and junior high schools, as it is inevitable Stapleton will have to add one of each in the upcoming years. “One of our main things is helping communicate the interests and opinions of Stapletonians to Forest City and the City and County of Denver,” said SUN President Mike Victoria. “We know Stapleton can be an opinionated community, so we want to share those opinions, and understand issues where there is a strong consensus. Of course, the people we disseminate that information to don’t always listen to us.”

Of Mice and Meat: Has Stapleton Soopers Hit Rock Bottom?
Recently, it was reported that a patron at the Stapleton King Soopers noticed a live mouse running through the deli meat case. “I screamed and told the employee,” said Laura Kozlowski. “But, they didn’t seem that shocked. They just said, ‘yeah, we see that thing, but never in the deli case.’” The incident is latest in what seems to be a history of troubles with Stapleton residents. Prior to the rodent siting, many residents have been fighting to keep another King Soopers from going into the Eastbridge Town Center. This incident will only strengthen that cause.
