Final Two People Willing to Take Northfield Principal Job Announced

March 2, 2016 by admin

Northfield to get principalMonths after the resignation of Northfield’s previous principal, two candidates have emerged who are qualified and willing to take on the epic task of growing the Stapleton area high school. “The search has been exhausting,” said acting DPS Superintendent Susana Cordova. “Candidates have learned what they most likely would be walking into, and therefore, have politely passed on the opportunity. Think of it in terms of a Venn diagram. There is a subset of people who are qualified to be the principal, and that set is fairly large in number. Then, there is a subset of people who are willing to take the job, which is a smaller number, mostly comprised of illegal immigrants looking for work. Then, when you take the intersection of those two, qualified and willing candidates, we are looking at an extremely small number. In fact, really just these two finalists.” The two finalists recently spoke at a community forum at the high school, where 75 attendees were able to listen to their philosophies and ask some questions. “Honestly, I was just happy there are two people willing to take this job,” said forum attendee Leslie Hodan. “They were so brave, speaking passionately about their experiences and how they would actually accept the position. I think they were sincere.” Rob Williams agreed. “They both seem very qualified, intelligent, and willing to work here,” said Williams. “Can we hire them both? I mean, why not have a fall back in case one leaves immediately? I’m definitely going to see what needs to be done to make that happen.” A lot has been made regarding the challenges in developing the Northfield High School, both in getting support and students from the Stapleton community, as well as the challenge of dealing with Stapleton parents. “Can you imagine the politics that will ultimately occur for the sports teams?” asked resident Jim Schmit. “That alone will be crazy. Then, if a student is getting bad grades, will it be the teacher’s fault? I just think it is going to be a really demanding job.” The two finalists, Amy Bringedahl and Stacy Parrish, both bring a lot of experience as well as willingness to take the job. “I thought they both did a great job,” said Williams. “They really want to take the job. That’s what impressed me most.” Hodan agrees. “From what they said, it seems they both have plans for what they would do if they were hired. That tells me they have prepared and care about becoming the principal here. That says a lot. I mean, not a lot of people want to embark on this journey.” The candidates interviewed with acting Superintendent Cordova last Thursday, and the final announcement should be made soon. There will be a Principal at Northfield High School. *Update:   Amy Bringedahl will be the Principal of Northfield High School for the 2016-17 school year.  Best of success to Amy in her years to come. ]]>

Stapleton Nanny Calls in Sick for Record Eighth Time During Week

March 2, 2016 by admin

sick nannyThe Rundall family is not unlike many other families in Stapleton. They have working parents, and two young children at home, a four and a two year old. Two years ago, they weighed the pros and cons of whether to get a nanny or take their first child to a child care facility. “We decided we wanted our baby to be comfortable at our home,” said working mother Kelly. “If we couldn’t stay home with him, we at least wanted him to be in our house.” There were other reasons as well. “We liked the idea of having one on one child care,” said father Chris. “The child care facilities we looked at were great, but in the end, appreciated the idea that our child would be cared for by one person.” [Read more…] about Stapleton Nanny Calls in Sick for Record Eighth Time During Week

Stapleton Neighbor Starting to Look “Really Old”

March 2, 2016 by admin

neighbor on block looking oldMany Residents on Valentia St. have been there for over 10 years, so of course, everyone is aging. But, according to others on his block, no one is aging more rapidly than Kevin Gibbons. “I’ve really started to notice it lately,” said neighbor and friend Darren Bidler. “It’s not just the gray hair. He definitely is getting a lot more wrinkles.” Neighbor Elise Anderson says she has noticed several things as well. “Let’s face it,” said Anderson. “We are all fighting gray hair and wrinkles. But, Kevin seems to be walking old, and talking old. It’s just a lot of things we have all been noticing and talking about.” Bidler acknowledges he doesn’t think Kevin is that old. “I’m pretty sure is only a few years older than me, and I am 41. He definitely looks older than mid 40’s.” Anderson says she thinks outside factors may be playing a part. “He does have two daughters who are approaching teenage years,” said Anderson. “Also, I know he got a promotion a couple years ago and is pretty high up in his company, so I’m sure that has added stress.” From Gibbon’s view, he isn’t aging that poorly. “I feel pretty good,” said Gibbons, who is 44. “I mean, nothing out of the ordinary. The usual changes a person in their mid-40’s goes through, but I feel pretty good.” Gibbons says he hasn’t noticed any signs of rapid aging over the last couple of years. “To be fair, I see myself almost every day. Now, maybe if I looked at a picture two years ago versus now, I would notice something. But to me, I’m as right as the mail.” Neighbors disagree. “I think he would be a good candidate for some Rodan + Fields products,” said neighbor Leslie Pecenka. Bidler feels more drastic steps could be taken. “Maybe he should start doing HGH. That may slow his aging a little bit.” What won’t slow down is how much his neighbors are talking about his aging. ]]>

The couples are excited to begin the next phase of their lives. “We know we have some big changes coming, but we are looking forward to them,” said Julie Kohrt, who is seven months pregnant. “Ever since Robert and I started dating, we would talk about having kids, so we knew we would eventually be doing this.” The Kohrts moved from the Highlands last year to the Conservatory Green neighborhood. “We have loved being here so far,” said Julie. “It obviously is going to be a great place to have kids and we have met a lot of fun neighbors as well.” [Read more…] about Soon to be Stapleton Parents Struggle to Find Unique Stapleton Name

Police Training Facility Continues Holdout; Won’t Sell to Forest City

March 2, 2016 by admin

police training facility holding outThe police training facility located on 21st and Akron across from Bill Roberts is staying put for now. Forest City has continually pressured the DPD and the City of Denver to sell the valuable real estate to Forest City for development. “It’s an incredible waste of valuable property,” said Forest City President Phil Dargossi. “It made sense to have it there years ago, but now that this area is actually worth something, we need to put it to better use. There has to be property in Aurora Denver could use for their training facility.” Dargossi says that they already have ideas for how the facility would be repurposed. “We have narrowed it down to a handful of plans involving upper income housing, really upper income housing, and super high income housing. We also have plans for a small promenade with continually rotating boutiques, mostly due to our unaffordable leasing agreements.” [Read more…] about Police Training Facility Continues Holdout; Won’t Sell to Forest City

Parents of Kindergartner Already Concerned About Popularity

March 2, 2016 by admin

worried kindergartner isn't coolSofia Harris is like most other girls in her kindergarten class at Bill Roberts Elementary. She enjoys running around with her friends at recess, climbing on the monkey bars, swinging, and all sorts of other fun games. She spends most of her time with a few close friends from her class, but also hangs out with kids from other classes she knows from non-school activities. All of this is very normal, but parents Amanda and Jeff are a little concerned. “When I drop her off at school, she immediately goes and plays with her friend Emma,” said Amanda. “I mean, Emma is a great friend, and a sweet girl, don’t get me wrong. But, everyone knows that Nicholas and Vivian are the two coolest kids in the class. Why isn’t she getting time with them? Is she not cool enough for that group?” [Read more…] about Parents of Kindergartner Already Concerned About Popularity

Residents Watch Construction of Eastbridge Town Center While Waiting for Hell to Freeze Over

February 17, 2016 by admin

Town-centerIn what has seemed like a lifetime for many Eastbridge residents, the Eastbridge Town Center appears to finally be under construction. The Stapletonion posted its very first article in March of 2011 discussing how soon businesses would be moving into the area. A short five years later, ground has been broken. The big concern for residents across Stapleton now, is whether life itself will continue. “I guess we all wanted this, but never thought it would come to fruition,” said Stapleton resident Joe Brooks. “Now, myself, and I know a lot of others, are worried this is the end. Isn’t this one of the signs of the apocalypse the Bible talked about in Revelation? At the very least, hell is freezing over, right?” Other residents feel the same way. “What happens when hell freezes over,” asked Marc Shaffer. “I mean, could it be a positive, or is it an end of world sort of thing? I honestly don’t know, but I do know it’s clearly happening now that the town center is being built.” The town center was originally promised to Eastbridge home buyers about a decade ago. Long before Conservatory Green, or Willow Park East, or the Bluff Lake Neighborhoods were even beginning. If not for the actual construction equipment and digging at the site, residents wouldn’t believe it is happening. “It’s pretty cool to see that we may be finally getting stuff that was promised to us a decade ago,” said resident Kirk Huebner. “Now, I hope we get at least a little time to enjoy it, with hell freezing over and all.” Biblical and ‘end of time’ scholars are certainly concerned with the development in Northeast Denver. “This is one of those things that has people worried across the globe,” says Biblical Scholar Bart Ehrman. “There are things in the Old Testament that seem to be referring to this development, and it’s concerning to all religions, not just Christians.” Ehrman says if the Eastbridge Town Center is a sign of the end of the world, residents shouldn’t concern themselves too much with it. “Once an end of time prophecy is fulfilled, there’s no stopping it. You just need to enjoy the remainder of your days, however many that may be.” For the sake of Eastbridge residents, hopefully it’s at least about a year and a half.]]>
