New MCA President Paul Harris is emphatic on his promises in regards to security and continues to deliver on those promises. “Residents remain concerned over the threat of possible crime here,” said Harris. “I have read reports saying crime is really not that bad. Maybe. But maybe not. We will continue to use our funds to stave off real and fictional threats to our citizenry.” Harris and the MCA recently entered a partnership with the Air Force and Buckley Air Force Base to conduct training and reconnaissance missions over Stapleton looking for suspects aiming to harm the Stapleton way of living. “The helicopters deployed are transport copters, not gunships,” explained Sargent Chris Meeter, who is overseeing the project. “There won’t be any shots fired into the neighborhood. We are here to assess threats, then if necessary, land and deploy special forces to end the threat.” Meeter says threats could be from package pirates, garage thieves, or possibly home intruders.

Mowing Around Tiny Tree in Small Back Yard Becoming Big Pain in the Ass
Jason Gerber owns a Parkwood Home in the Bluff Lake neighborhood in Stapleton. Like many other Stapleton homes, Jason does not have much of a yard. In fact, there is even less than he started with. “We had a patio put in two falls ago,” said Gerber. “So, really all we have is the tiny little section in the back, and the small section in the front.” By looking at the yard, it would seem to be a pretty simple mow. But not according to Jason. “It’s almost too small. I mean, we have one annoying tree back there, and I have to circle around it, duck under its little braches, back into the gate. Then, I have to reverse my steps and go back the opposite way, usually getting a branch in my face. I mean, I just want to get rid of the whole back yard and turn it into a patio.”

First Eastbridge Watchtower Nears Completion
Six months ago, the MCA moved forward on a plan to construct a series of watch towers. After several delays, the first tower located close to the car wash in Eastbridge is almost completed. “This is just one of the many steps we are taking towards a safer Stapleton,” said MCA President Paul Harris. “This tower is more than a functional structure which will serve as a place for private security to scope out criminals and outsiders, it serves as a symbol of our strength as a community. No, you’re not going to take things out of our open garages, and no, you’re not going to loiter around our shops without an MCA card. This is a big first step, and a positive one.” Harris was not specific on how many other towers would be built but mentioned there would be “several.”
Many residents are not keen on the idea of having watchtowers throughout Eastbridge. “I think I would rather have the petty crime than have our neighborhood look like a jail yard,” said Eastbridge resident Lara Reisetter. “The one they have in the town center doesn’t look horrible, but if you put those all over the place and in parks, it starts looking pretty bad. This isn’t Gaza for crying out loud.” Resident Mark Ihm echoed those sentiments. “This is ridiculous,” said Ihm. “I never thought living here would be like living in a police state. Just a little too much.” The Next tower is expected to be raised at the park on the corner of 26th and Fulton.]]>
Stapleton Three Year Old Cries for Reason
In an almost unprecedented event, a Stapleton boy, aged three, had an actual reason to cry. “You can probably count the number of times this has been recorded on two hands,” said child psychologist Dr. Dave Price. “Typically, a three year old just cries randomly and sometimes when they are happy. To use a scientific term, it’s pretty fucked up.” Price said he has studied the emotional behavior of three year olds for over a decade and has seen thousands of three year olds crying, in person and in videos. “What makes this situation so unique is that the incident was caught on tape,” said Price. “Lots of people have sent me unverified statements about their three year old crying for a reason, but none had any hard evidence to back it up. It was all hearsay. What we have been looking for is video proof of a three year old crying for a legitimate reason.”

Residents Flock to Get Glimpse of Amazing Trains
The long anticipated opening of the University of Colorado A-Line happened last Saturday, and Stapleton residents came by the hundreds to get a chance to view and even ride the train. “It was truly amazing,” said resident Jeremy Meyers. “It went so fast. I don’t know how these things work, but boy was it incredible.” Excited onlooker Autumn Schmit was also impressed by the technological wonder. “It was just really, really cool,” said Schmit. “All these people would get off, and then all of these people would get on. It takes you right to downtown, or the airport, and all these other places we will probably never go. But pretty darn neat.”
Trains, which have been around for about 175 years, have gone through many changes and upgrades since their inception in the late 19th century. Light rails, or commuter trains have been around since the 1970’s, hoping to provide reliable transportation to millions of people in crowded cities, and ease traffic in urban areas. The light rail has been in Denver for over a decade and a half now, but many residents still had never got a glimpse of one. “I had heard about them, but had never actually saw one,” said resident Colleen Baird. “And you know, without ever seeing one, it is pretty hard to believe. That’s why I brought the family today. I wanted to let them see the amazing things we have in this world. Like trains.”
Residents look forward to the many advantages the University of Colorado A Line will provide. “It definitely eliminates most of my excuses for not leaving Stapleton,” said Steve Turner. “We will definitely do a little more in the city. At least that’s how I’m looking at it now. Come to think of it, Stanley Marketplace will still be a lot closer.”

Stapleton Family Makes Disingenuous Promise to “Never Let House Get Like That Again”
Every spring, like many households, the McAllister family does a thorough cleaning of their home, removing tens of unneeded items, as well as scrubbing places they only see once a year. The family gets rid of old toys, clothes, and furniture in the unfinished portion of the basement. The process can be grueling, and heart-wrenching. “It’s always tough to see old kids clothing go,” said mother of three Brenda. “Even getting rid of some of the old toys can be hard, but you can’t become a hoarder.” The family seems to stockpile hundreds of small, pointless toys from happy meals as well as “art projects” the kids create. “We just have so much junk,” says dad Steven. “Every year we say we are going to be better about throwing things out or getting rid of things as we go, and it never works out. This year, we are really hoping to do better.”

Neighborhood North of 56th to Become “Tiny Town”
With the Willow Park East and Wicker Park neighborhoods up and running, Forest City has turned its attention to developing the area north of 56th. With some big ideas and a large number of Green Book issues to address, Forest City came up with some small solutions. “There is a new trend in America where people are interested in living small,” said Forest City Spokesperson Janelle Ayers. “I mean really small. Stapleton is known for its giant, beautiful homes, but we thought, we can still do beautiful, but maybe scaled down.” Ayers says Forest City plans to build an entire neighborhood using the “tiny home” concept. “This is going to be big. Not the homes, but the idea, obviously.”

Westerly Creek Park Offers Gorgeous Views of Central Park
Stapleton has roughly three dozen pocket parks which provide wide open areas for kids to play sports, fly kites, and have picnics. Most of those parks have new age playground equipment which on a nice day, are crawling with Stapleton kids. Then, of course, there’s Central Park which provides everything the pocket parks do, but with ten times the space and playground equipment. But one of these Stapleton pocket parks stands out from the rest of the Stapleton Green Space. Westerly Creek Park.
